S2000 vs. Viper GTS-R

What's the challenge? Anybody can get 500HP outta 8 liters (488ci), jeeze that's takes no brains. You can buy a 454 from GM for $3750 that will get 475HP, and that's with a carburetor !

Mmmmmmmmmm......... Viiiiiiiiper.......
NICE cars. I saw a green one a few years ago that was just gorgeous. If not in that color, I'll take a blue GTS, please! Well actually, I think I'd like to drive one, but not own one. Seems like the kind of car you own only because you can; something you take out for (very) quick runs. I've heard and read a million times about its lack of comfort even on the basest of levels.
Give me a 360 Modena or 911 any day.

True, j2k, my experience IS limited to one autox that I saw a Viper in. The course was very short, extremely tight and the fastest cars were doing the whole thing is ~26-7 seconds. And the Viper was just plain not at home there...i cannot speak to open course autox's on real race tracks in comparison to the S2000. My only point here has been to say that it is important to define where one is talking about beating/losing to/smoking/being smoked by another car.
My friend Nick, who has an S2000 (fairly modified) a Skyline and a fully Mugen-built Type R has some interesting things to say about this very topic. Check out his encounters with a Viper here...

A Viper would smoke the S2K in a straight line, but the corners might be a different story. After watching the S2000 on the track with a few Vipers at the Runoffs at MidOhio (T1 and T2 qualified together) I was impressed with how the S2000 held up. That Viper is a freakin' boat (not too mention a Dodge).

YEAH BABY !
Note the 450hp smile tempered by the thought of Dodge reliability...(what's that noise?)
Based on a pickup? judging by the interior styling, I'll agree with that.
It's as fun as a rollercoaster, but would you want to ride a rollercoaster to work everyday?

of course it's important to keep in mind the specifics of the situation when you talk about relative car performance... at least when the cars are relativly close... but between the Viper and S2000, it's not very close at all. You'd be pretty hard pressed to come up with a track/auto-x design when there S2000 could best a Viper. I could imagine one with gates physically too narrow for a Viper to fit between... but of course that's hardly a realistic or useful thing to imagine.
be it a straight line or as many corners as you can imagine... the S2000 is not going to prevail over a Viper. One person's anecdoteal observations of "average joe" drivers in a non-competitive situation is not a good way to compare the S2000 and Viper's relative performance... or the relative performance of any two cars.
