Comparing a stock boxster to a modified s2000 is rediculous. If I wanted a roadster and I could afford a boxster I certainly would pick the new Boxster S over the s2000.

Again, Why?

I am not asking you to criticize. I too love the new boxster, but even if i had the money to spare, and you thought of this as a business decision, what is it about the porsche that would make you "jarod" pay the dealership $60,000, over a $30,000 s2000 from honda. Stock to stock?

The boxster is only minimally quicker to 60 and 1/4 mile. It weighs more, slightly. top speed exceeds the s2000. but other than that, what are your advantages that make you say the comparison is rediculous?

A more interesting comparison would be the S2000 to the new standard Boxster. Which has 240hp and weighs 2855 lbs. Compare that to the S2000 with 240hp and weighs 2835 lbs. Nearly identical, eh?

The base Boxster comes in at a cost of $43,900. That's $10,950 more than the S2000.

So if you had to pay with your own money, which would you get?

The Boxster has extras in that base cost like PSM, traction control, side airbags, moving rear spoiler, heated side-view mirrors, one-touch up and down windows, HomeLink, electronic throttle, 199 lb-ft of torque, vented 4-piston brakes, onboard computer, and the opportunity to add a gazillion options.

The S2000 has a 6spd manual (Boxster only has 5, surprisingly, but the 6spd is an option) and HIDs standard.

Then of course there's the difference in feel, which I won't bother getting into here.

I wouldn't buy the base model boxster if I wanted one. I'd get the S. More power. It's not just the brand. I like the mid engine layout and hearing the engine behind me. The new interior looks great. Offers traction control, navigation option, better brakes, a better toneau cover, more low end torque, cool moving spoiler, higher quality leather, windows that go down automatically when you open the door, etc. It's all these extras that I like. Performance wise the new base boxster should be finally up to par with the S2000, so with the S version getting 280HP, it should be the better car.

From 60mph-100mph, the new Boxster S is a lot quicker then a stock S2K.

Boxster S

0-60mph 5.2 seconds
0-100mph 12.3 seconds
60-100mph 7.1 seconds

The best 60-100 stock S2K time I saw was 8.6 seconds and the best 0-100 time was 13.7. I would not call 1.4-1.5 second "minimally quicker".

dude, if your gonna finance that much cash, just wait a few more weeks, and pick up a new Z06. jeebuz, 60 k for a boxter? no thanks. the car looks bad ass, but im just not a fan. as it is, the current boxter S, is no match for my car, i mean, its like racing an impala ss. i chew them up bad. so, the current one, better haul ass, or ill wax that also. laters. dave

Carlson, the 0-100 @ 12.3 is a misprint. It should read 13.3 which then is only approx 0.5 quicker through the 1/4.
Still think the 60+ Boxster S is a great deal?
