S2000 vs MX-5 - Weight
can anyone tell me why the MX-5 is like 450lbs lighter then the S2000?
Mx-5 = 2,410 lb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mazda_MX-5)
S2000 = 2,864 lb (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_S2000)

Well that's the weight of the Base Miata, the GT models are a probably 150 pounds heavier, and that trim is somewhat closer in options to an S2000. But yeah, its a smaller car dude.

I went with 2009 non-CR S2000 vs 2009 Miata Grand Touring.
Spec - S2000 | Miata
Weight - 2864 lbs | 2511 lbs (353 less)
Length - 162.7 in | 157.3 in (5.4 less)
Width - 68.9 in | 67.7 in (1.2 less)
Wheelbase - 94.5 in | 91.7 in (2.8 less)
So it's smaller. Smaller = less material = lighter weight.
It has less power. So it needs less bracing to keep from flexing due to acceleration.
It has smaller tires (205/45/17 all around.)
I cannot speak to the overall chassis flex. Nor to the impact protection it offers. Nor to engine, transmission and diff weights. Nor to carpet and undercoating thickness.
ps - change the Miata model to the base, and the weight drops to 2447, but wheels also drop to 16" and AC is not included, which is why I went with the GT trim to get a better apples-to-apples comparison.

Well, the 350Z was built on a truck chassis. I think the question has validity.
Considering the similarities, I'd like to know what the frame weighs for both cars. I'd suspect that the S2000 frame just weighs 300 pounds more due to more strengthening and a bit larger dimensions.
