Default S2000 v. BMW Z4

Has anyone driven the Z4. I understand that it is a vast improvement over the Z3 with suspension parts from the 3 series, a longer wheelbase and several other improvements over the Z3. I believe that it was released to dealers about two weeks ago and was wondering whether anyone has driven one for a first impression.

Wow, I don't even know where to start. I sold my M Roadster to buy an S2000. If that tells you anything.

I saw a Z4 in Spartenburg where they make them. I don't think they are even in the dealerships yet. BMW just released them to the public a couple of weeks ago. I think you will see the demize of the design in one to two years. The car is just ugly. Chris Bangel has screwed the pooch with this one. If you read the mags they agree. The smooth front end and angular back look like they don't go together at all. You will only get the 3.0 liter for two years. The M version won't be hear for a while. I think they will change the design after that anyway. If you go the any of the bimmer sites everyone agrees. I think it would be a bad investment. They Honda has the second highest resale value, the best handling and braking. It is as fast as the 3.0 liter. They have changed the rear end linkage of the new BMW, but I don't think it will handle close to the Honda. The M I owned handled like crap. BMW designed a lot of oversteer into it. GET THE HONDA. Trust me, from someone who has owned both.

I appreciate the input. I presently drive an S2000 and love it but I was intrigued by the potential performance of the Z4. I drove the Z3 (M roadster version) prior to purchasing my S2000 and the S2000 out handled the Z3 hands down. Unlike you and the automotive press I like the looks of the new Z4 but I think that the angular look may grow tiresome after a few years. The S2000's lines are classy and should continue to hold up over time. Just curious if anyone had driven the Z4 and made a comparison yet.

I haven't and don't plan to. The car looks like crap. I am looking forward to driving the G35 coupe though.

I had a Z3 3.0 (M version) loaner for a couple weeks because my 3 series was a little delayed getting stateside. I considered it, but the S2000 won out for several reasons. When I saw the Z4 I (visual of man placing finger down throat).

Don't get me wrong. I love BMWs...except Z4 that is. I don't know what improvements they made performance-wise but the look...well, it looks to me like that car driven by the Ambiguously-Gay-Duo from SNL . Can you imagine? People staring at your car and you have to say, "Now, what's everyone looking at?"

OhioRacer, I think I can help you out on the visual.
I completely agree with your assessment of the Z4, and I am a die-hard BMW fan.
However the Z4 is what I like to think of as just another of the new BBB BMW Series.
You see BBB stands for Bastardized By Bangel.

Huh? A Z3 3.0 M Version? Don't you mean a Z3 3.0? Or do you mean an M Roadster? Chances are if they loaned it out to you, it was the 3.0, not the M... considering the M has the S54 engine, and BMW dealers are not likely going to loan out a 315 h.p. car.

Unless you were driving an M car from 1995, the M engines (inline-6, that is) are 3.2 liters.

And, for what it's worth, this M Coupe owner thinks the new Z4 is really, really ugly.
