S2000 Type V is coming???
My friend told me that some guy in California is waiting for his S2000 Type V to arrive. He is also considering waiting for the Type V. Anyone know when they are suppose to come.....if not at all????

In our conference with the S2000 engineers from Honda in Tokyo, they were clear that there is no chance that the Type V (VGS) S2000 will be coming to our shores. If this guy in Cali is getting one, it's a one off deal. Honda simply isn't going to do it, much to my (and I'm sure other's) chagrin...
We all test drove one around an autocross course at Twin Ring Motegi and I freaking LOVED it. Opinions were mixed, but most thought it was amazing...
I would LOVE to have one!

Type V is a Japan market, right wheel drive only variation.
The steering angle is variable as the wheel is turned and it only takes 1.4 turns from full left to full right as opposed to 2.4 on our cars.
In addition the Type V has a VGS logo, a squared off bottom to the steering wheel and (I think) some added titanium trim.
The horsepower is the same 247 that is standard for the Japanese market.
Here's a link to the Honda page about VGS, if you read Japanese.

Here's an English explanation from www.vtec.net

VGS means variable gear ratio steering.

Anything is possible! I don't think Honda will import the Type-V for now, but anyone who has enough money or connection could buy one (or more) in Japan and ship it in under the GREY market.
There are lot of cars from out of USA are here which are not legal on the street or sold here. (The Skyline, Lotus Elise, Smart car, and more...). So, it is not IMPOSSIBLE.
And about the REAR GLASS WINDOW for the convertible top of S2000. It is also not impossible. It is weather Honda want to make it happend or not.
Personally, I would love it if they will come out with the glass windw in 2002, because I had just wrecked my 2001 in Feb. in the rain; Looking for a replacement for next year. I have heard a lot of you didn't care with the rear plastic window, and are very happy with the engine and handling that you get, and top down motoring and all. I'm happy for you! But if Honda can make it even better; I'll be happier, and nothing wrong with that? I used to own many older convertible cars, and still have 2 Fiat 850 spyders. Just had the top replace with one of them; had to rebuilt the frame (for the convertible) as will. Just the labor cost $800! Just curious, have many of you seen the browning effect of the plastic window over age? Have you seen some of the older Miata, Z3, or Boxters on the road with the browned rear plastic window? I love my cars and like to have them looking good and handle at their best as well! Just my input. So, I'll be much happier if Honda come out with the glass window, even though I drive with my top down all the time -when temp above 40*. (Remember, If you have that top stored folded all the time it will tear or crack sooner than store it with top up.)

The Lotus Elise, you are correct. It IS sold here, however, but it does not meet DOT crash specs. The Elise is sold here as a 'track only' car. Perfectly legal if you only run it on the track...
