Check this thread out claiming that due to poor sales Honda will develop a 2.2 to 2.5 litre type R with more low end torque - yum !

S2000 type R

Will be an instant trade in for me if 2.5 litres with 280bhp and possible 210lb ft of torque !

It's been discussed, and the article is crap. Poor sales? What part of the world is experiencing poor sales with S2000s? There may be a type R at some point, but the people who wrote that article are full of it. They're the same ones who claimed that Honda was bringing out a 4 door S2000 sedan back in '99...

That website has proven itself to be unreliable in the past...no reason to believe that now.

It's a reality if/when Honda announces the Type R and it shows up on dealers' lots for sale.

Actually, you will notice that Honda has shyed away from the Type - R models and has moved to a Type-S Model being the performance model. That website is ridiculous, it is some kids Geoshitties page of rumors that he/she has heard. I look to see perhaps a Type-S model, however it is unlikely with the S2000.

This site lacks a bit of credibility in terms of reliability of information, however until now we haven't really heard anything about the any possibility of the type R, and they happen to be the first. Points made by this article has been discussed to death in various threads on this forum, ie more torque low down, weight savings etc.

There is no doubt in certain markets, the S2000 sales have been declining markedly, and given the competition it faces from its competitors - in Porsche (upping its std. Boxster to 2.7 and releasing the S in quick succession and soon to release a Boxster 3.4 with 290 hp), I see good reason to believe that Honda probably have an S2000 type R, or S2200, or S2500 in its wings for release in hopefully not too distant future.

History has it that Honda (with the NSX) are slow to make any midlife changes (especially to engine upgrades) to compete against rivals - one has to remember that the NSX is a much higher cost car and perhaps Honda not so keen on it to lead in market share as to use the NSX as an image or icon. The S2000 is a much higher volume vehicle that is made from the outset to rival mid priced volume sellers as the Boxster, Z3 and SLK so I think they have probably got on with to develop an S2000 type R, or S2200, S2500 or whatever, in the near future.
