Default Is the S2000 a Track Ready Car?

I am looking for a fun car that I can track and drive home. Having said that I was looking at MR2 Turbos and S2000s as my next car. I have had an 02 S2000 for about 2 years before and understand its driving characteristics. Is the S2000 a track ready car stock or will I have to address some things before tracking? One issue I am not too fond of in the S2000 is how cramped it is. Compared to the S2000, My RX-7 was spacious with plenty of leg room and good visibility. The handling of the car is good, and like my RX-7, the rear end seems a bit twitchy in the rain, but thats not really an issue. I wouldn't think these cars are expensive to maintain? I never had to do anything to the 02 besides regular fluid maintenence. Insight please! Thanks

I think it's one of the car that you can bring it to the track and be pretty fun.

i don't think you need much to prep the S to the track, if you are looking at all out racing that thing, stripe it down.

it's a little porky as if now.

you can't really compare reliablitiy wise with the S, RX7 have pretty bad issue with motor, undersized cooling system, etc.

the new rx8 is a pile of poop(just drove one, clutch is softer than my grand's clutch, plastic interior done by rubbermaid and motor is lacking the punch)

if you want a track car, please go take a good look at the S, evo, sti and the lotus, they are all very different yet tearing up the track

I am planning on tracks like Thunderhill or Seca. Should be fun!

I never looked into the RX-8, it's a disappointment to me. As with the S2000, there was never any surge of power that I experienced. I really miss the twin turbos.

I am well aware of the capabilities of the Evo Sti and the Elises.

Being 6'1, the elise is not an option for me

The new sti looks very ugly to me

The Evo, though very capable, does not suit me.

I like nimble cars that have great road feel and feedback. The Rx-7 was exceptional at these characteristics.

The S2000 is nimble and fun. My gripe with it is that its so cramped inside, the rattling when the top is down, it could use more power/torque

How is the S holding up at circuit events? auto-x?

The S2K is one of the most track ready cars out there. Depending on your skill level and how frequently you'll be heading to the track you may want/need to invest in a more aggressive track alignment, track brake pads, and track tires but other than that the car is quite comfortable on the track straight from the factory. It's also one of the more reliable cars you'll find out there. It's unbelievable how well this car handles revving at 9k (or 8 ) for extended periods of time.

well the goal with an S2K at the track is to keep the RPMs above 6k so you always have power at your fingertips.
