Default S2000 Tips/Hints

This is my first post here, I did a Google search and this was the most interesting site that I stumbled onto.

I have just ordered a yellow S2000, which I will be able to pick up this coming Monday(July 22nd).

Are there any things that I need to know that the dealer won't be able to fill me in on?

I'm sure that many of you have experienced good/bad things with your new car that had you known before hand would not have had to learn the hard way.

So pleases fill me in to any tips or recommendations that will help me to enjoy what you have already been experiencing.

Are there any must have options or aftermarket accessories that all of you have or want.

A little background on yours truly this is my fourth Honda, 2 Accords and my wife currently drives a CRV.

I have followed this car from the time it was only a rumor till I actually saw it at the North American auto show in Detroit when it was a concept, but I kept dreaming and hesitating from pulling the trigger well here I am and I hope to learn from all of your experiences with your car while enjoying mine.

1. Keep the RPMS under 6000 for the first 600 miles.

2. Check your oil regularly.

3. Look into buying a grille covering from one of the sponsors on the site.

Google is great!

Trust your owner's manual before the dealer salespersons. They are used to selling FWD sedans and coupes. They don't know as much as you know about the S2000 after you spend one days on this forum.

Be aware that side strakes require the dealer to drill holes in your car to install. My dealer pushed them, and I'm glad I said no.

Since your wife drives a CR-V, you are pre-qualified to own a S2000

The car comes loaded. I suggest coastal metals grill guard, and their bumper protector for early accessories. Also full-coverage mats offered by sponsors of this board.

Good luck and welcome!

The above info is a must read. However, don't forget the brea-in period:

1. Don't go above 6000RPMs for the first 600 miles.
2. Incrementally and occasionally add 1000 more rpms to the engine revs every additional 200 miles.

Also, don't wax the car right away. Especially if it's a straight order and a freash build. Let then paint cure on its own. There is really no need for it for a brand-spanking new car anyway. Lastly, (and this is highly debateable) might want to change the oil the first time in the first 1000 miles on the odometer.

That's all I can think of. Congratulations and welcome to the community. -KM.

Boy you guys are faster than the cars you drive responding to my questions, already some very useful information I will try and find the grill guards you are talking about.

When I went to the dealer letter and tried to open the PDF file this is what I get:

ezfilemanager/files/phpweG1tt - 0.93276000 1027011432

Do I need to type this somewhere?

My wife already has plans for the new S2000, and they don't include me.

Thanks for the warm welcome, I think I found some new friends

Sorry, that PDF is broken. You need to save it and rename it to something.pdf to view it (I think).

S2000 owners are awesome, you'll like it here

I would venture to say that you are in a very slim minority on this one.

An extremely large percentage of owners here follow their owners' manual for oil change recommendations.
