First of all, thank you for all the responses.
Second, perhaps I should be more clear. I did not think that the car was slow. I just felt that it was not as fast as I expected. I know the numbers of the S and the Prelude and I expected more of a difference.
Also, I think I know how to drive a vtec car after 2 years with the Prelude. I guess that I should have tested a used one so that I could really open it up. And I think that the heat did make a difference. Oh, and the salesman was a skinny dude.
I do love the car. It is so easy to drive, I cannot say that enough. The connected to the road feeling, the being one with the car is the best I ever felt. I think that I will probably buy a used one and put in gears.
And I promise that I won't vtec before break-in ever again (I only did it a little bit), it was the Silverstone/Black one at the dealer in Tysons Corner, VA, by the way.
Thanks alot.

The heat and humidity do play a large part. Forget just the lack of air density also, the chances are you had the A/C on and that too saps enough power for it to be quite noticable.
Of course I love squirting about in 2nd and 3rd gears around the twisties but then one thing that always makes me smile is joining a freeway in 4th, when I've been pootling about, say pulling 4-4,500 rpm. Put the foot down and hold it. The speed increases slowly at first then it's like the wind up of a turbine! It's so cool! You hit VTEC but it's more subtle in that gear and she justs pulls all the way to a very illegal redline.
Love it

I test drove a Mazda 3 the other day and it FELT faster than my S2000. I know it is not faster, but some cars just feel that way for some reason. I suspect it's the torque coming on earlier.
The S2000 feels crazy fast when your a passenger and the driver shifts from 1st to 2nd at WOT.

I had a '97 Prelude (best 1/4 run at the track was a 15.3 at 91mph) and my '05 S2000 would BLOW it out of the water. The S2000 is much, much faster on the big cam at full boil. Keep it between 6-8krpm and it flies down the road quite nicely.

i felt the same...when i switched from complete Toda equiped B18C5 type R to S2000.
but trust me S2000 is faster and the VTEC is not going to feel dramatic like the preludes and integras.
