Default S2000 Test Drive

Hello, I have been interested in the S for a long time now and I went out and test drove a new 05 on Sunday. The car is great, super smooth, solid chassis, so easy to shift, fit me like a glove and it is beautiful.

But, I was a bit underwhelmed with the power. It did not feel any faster than my old 01 Prelude. And the vtec push was less than I expected. ( I had to do it.)

However, it was 95 degrees and humid and I didn't go all the way to redline.

Should I test drive it again on a cooler day?

Should I try an 02 or 03?

I really liked it otherwise.

Thank you for any responses...Good or bad...

keep shifting in vtec, hit redline so that in the next gear you are in vtec engagement.

come back with your analysis again.

Dude your smoking crack if you think your 01 prelude is as quick as an
05 S2000. although the power curve is more linear then earlier models
So it doesn't kick in like 01-03 models Its actually a bit more power
Full and quicker.

Perhaps you didn't drive it the way we do

This is why if I ever buy a new S2000, I will make sure that it was never demoed... VTEC before breakin is hell on these cars.... means problems like more oil consumption later.

If you are ever in my neck of the woods and you still have that old Prelude, we will head out to the track and I will show you slow.....

Haha....

the S isn't an easy car to drive fast......the car is more quick then it is fast..... but the S is a supercar compared to your heavy ass 01 prelude..

lol I just VTEC in my car several times today, the first time in like 2 weeks but yeh the power is def there Man you need to try the pre04 I think its more explosive or noticable when you hit VTEC in those years, espicially in 1st you get that kick...

I think my s2k is pretty quick and this is form soneone coming from a 12 secon twin turbo your probably just use to alot of torque to move those heavy cars around

Are you located in New Orleans by chance?

I hate to say it, but I felt the exact same way. I have been reading this forum for about a month, and finally was able to get away from work long enough to test drive an 05 last week. I loved it - except my 2001 GTI with a chip and turbo back exhaust felt way faster.

Im not trying to flame the car at all - I am still very much considering the S2000 - but I cant figure out why it felt so slow. I was hitting the VTEC (very noticable) between shifts... could it be the humid swamp weather??

Oh, and BTW. If I bought a 05, I would definately want one that had not been demo'd...

I felt the same when I got mine, but as stated above, it is not easy to drive fast compared to lower revving cars. Plus, I noticed mine is starting to loosen up. I am at 3400 miles now and it seems like it is getting faster. I beat my friend's mildly built camaro and pulled on it pretty easily.
