Default S2000 Suspension - Coilovers/Springs

The S2000 is reaching 9-10years old now for those early owners. I own a 2001 and im looking to lower my car. I know that springs is the best option for me since im not looking to track or anything. I am concerned that the stock shocks will blow and i'd just end up getting aftermarket shocks. So im wondering if i should save the cash and get coils or just get springs?

I mean i could always just get springs and ride it down till the shocks blow...but whats the point if im gonna get coils in the end...BUT then again...am i even gonna have the S when the shocks blow in years from now?....

Anyone have the stock shocks blow yet?

My S had 50k on it when I lowered it over an inch w/ springs on stock shocks. I have ~86k on it now and they're still going strong.

i lowered mine only one inch with the eibach pro kit. i'm not worried at all about the struts. my other car was lowered two inches at 20,000 miles and is at 80,000 miles now and now problems. even if the struts do pop i'll just throw in some new ones. but if you are paying somebody else to do it and the cost of labor is a high proportion of total cost i could see what your point is. what are coilovers, $1800? my springs were only like $200. the one inch drop is perfect and i'll risk the struts popping for the $1600 in savings...

Keep in mind that coilovers have a very harsh ride quality.

Not necessarily. The stock suspension is a coilover system.
It's just not adjustable.

Hahaha, I think you're being a little too harsh.

Most people don't know the difference between a shock and a strut, just as most don't know the difference between concrete and cement. IMO that doesn't make most people "dimbulbs." At one time, I didn't know the differences either.

LOL, if stupidity bothered me, I wouldn't be able to live with myself.
