My quess is due to timing. My numbers are based on sales - the month it was recorded as a sale (not the month it was built nor the model year). I know for example there are MY2001 cars that are still not sold, and they may have even high vin numbers than yours. Does that make sense?

Maybe some of the smaller vins were sent to other countries...your number being the actual number off the assembly line?

I think these numbers are the number of cars sold, not the number of cars made that year. There are no MY1999 S2000's in North America.

Sales of S2Ks in California are obviously still doing very nicely for Honda. Both my local Honda dealers have silvers in their showroom; one is priced at $38.900 and only has Lojack as an option, and the other is priced at $39,500 and has (only) special rims/tires. It seems like they're no longer adding in all the options to jack the price up.

Yes, the vehicle number (i.e., VIN number) is just that... the production number, after building it for the designated country (i.e., USA, Canada, etc.).

The sales numbers are the number of S2000 sold in a calendar period.

I have never seen data reported by model year number. I'm sure Honda has it but I've never heard of anyone giving that out.

I don't know wether your statement about "no longer adding in the options to jack the price up" is a tongue in cheek or not but the (only)special rims/tires had better be "very special" for $6,800 above MSRP.

I'm feeling rather duh at the moment. Of course... there is no such thing as a MY1999 so that makes more sense. Take the 1999 number and add to about 85% of the 2000 number and you get over 9100. This is probably a good estimate.

Either way the 5000 per MY to the US is blown out of the water.
