I actually like the RX-7. There are two very clean ones right around my area that I see sometimes, and I always catch myself staring at them. But like everyone else said, the reliability is not on par with that of the S2K. Not to mention the fact that the OLDEST S2K that you can get is a MY 2000 version. On top of all of that, you're a honda fan, right? So this shouldn't even be a question.

I can understand the desire to get an RX-7 and begin modding it, but the S2K is easily the better choice here. But for $15K you aren't going to find much.

My previous car as an 93 touring. I loved the car, but I got tired of working on it.. The FD and the S2k are so similar its scary, thats why I picked the S to replace the FD. Either car you will enjoy, but you will be able to drive the S more often .

I love RX7s and have owned a couple of them. I also work on an RX7 race car. With that out of the way, if I were to buy an FD I would swap an LS1 (or similar) motor in it. As much as I love rotaries I just would never want to deal with a 13B-REW again.

S2000 by far.

Reliability is the biggest issue for these cars.

I absolutely LOVE the rx-7 (93-95)
but am scared shitless of it's reliability

if it was below average i would still get one because i love it that much, but the reliability is just horrible so i had to stay away

IMO it's the best looking car to come out of japan next to the nsx.

SCA S2K your rx-7 was sexy!
nice list of cars you've had aswell.

i actually had the same toss up before i bought my S.

you have to do some research on what other RX7 owners have had to go through to keep theirs running in top shape, it mostly has to do with the rotary engine and the design of the turbos. those apex seals that were mentioned is not a trivial matter. it basically means a whole engine rebuild, and often. and while some f20c have been known to blow oil, RX7's are designed to use up oil, so regular attention MUST be paid. then there was the whole issue of the hoses near the cat and turbo going bad that requires frequent replacement as well.

but from what i hear, RX7's are an awesome car, power and handling wise. its too bad its plagued with these serious mechanical issues. and at this point, your dealing with at least a decade old car.

but with $15k to spend, youre only looking for a high mileage 2000 year s2000. perhaps neither car really is within your budget. still tho, i think the s2k is a better car.

LOL. Well I guess that solves that huh? Didn't know all that. My uncle had an RX7 and hadn't had any trouble out of it until the cat got clogged. But I was kinda leaning toward the S anyway. Anyone know of a decently priced one in the midwest or southeast? Live in KY and can't find anything. Looking for around 15K if possible
I'm from Lexington, KY, and am also in the market. I know a guy down here, who's selling his 02 Spa Yellow with just 10k miles for an asking price of 21.5k.
I reckon for 15k, your looking at an 00 s2k with 60k miles give or take, or a newer one with lower miles but with some kind of shady title.
