Anyone hear about this??

Sorry if this is a repost. Haven't found a thread here yet, but the notion of the S2K going away in a few years to be replaced by something else... hmmm....

Shiraishi also revealed that the S2000 roadster, which has been on sale for five years, would also be replaced in the next few years.
By my count, the S2000 has been in production for a total of 8 model years. Are you going to believe a report from someone who can't count?

They had a 1999 model in some countries.

What? You think America is the only market in the world?

But did you have a MY'00? Or did it just go from '99 to '01? If this is the case, then I stand corrected. Also, how about in Japan?

also, I don't think the S2000 was not a sucess for Honda. Honda did not intend to sell large numbers of S2000's wasn't only like 5-6k a year or so (in America at least) and they have sold well over that around 7-9k typically, right? At least thats what I thought I've read.

Also, only being offered with a manual transmission was purposeful, they knew it would keep away many buyers, but they wanted it to be more pure.

He's the head of Honda R&D. So I guess that means he is the brass and might just know more than the rest of us.

Eric
Thanks for the info and heads up. I really didn't know who he is. In any case, head of R&D may not necessarily call the shots when it comes to the destiny of a whole line of cars. The Japanese do things is a different kind of way. The most progressive manufacturer in the sense that they put concepts into production may very well be Chrysler today and even there, R&D have input and don't always call the shots.
