It may be just as fun to drive, but the experience is tilted more towards raw performance than precision handling.

I could be wrong... maybe Stan can help me out here...

Stock for stock the M coupe has a more precise turn-in and fluid handling dynamics than the E30's and E36's. It's quicker to rotate, quicker to stop and quicker to accelerate than the other two cars.
Yes the E30 and M coupe share many of the same underpinnings and yes the E30 weighed a bit less.
IMO the M coupe is what the E30 always wanted to be -- a good handling car with power and what the E36 never could be because of its larger, heavier self.

And from what I understand... 01-02 M Coupes is the quickest M model by BMW right now...
though just a tad quicker than M3 or M5s...

The M-Coupe lacks the steering feel of the E30 M3. Basically it has an E36 front suspension. E30 M3s have lots of detail changes from regular E30s. Such as beefier bits, forged alloy control arms, triple the caster, etc. 3.0 coupes steer better IMO - less weight up front.
The 4 cylinder 2.3 liter E30 M3 motor comes pretty corked up stock. Low 15s in the 1/4 mile. Launches at about 2500 RPMs. It's not a drag car but my best with mods is a 14.17 at 99.5 with a 2 1/4 second 60 foot time..which means that a high 13 may be possible. 5.75 seconds for 0-60. These are before my latest mod.
Presently I'm tuning the fuel injection to suit my new Carbon Fiber intake. I'm also making my own air filter as this is a real racing part from the DTM days and so has no air filter except a metal screen. I'm testing four different designs and need to seal the scoop to the huge opening next to the radiator. The messy wires are for my datalogging to dial stuff in..the yellow one goes to my throttle position sensor for example. You can see the individual throttle bodies between the carbon intake and the engine. Someone should make those for the F20C. Check it out below. The alloy nipples on the bottom of the plenum in the first PIC are for the idle control valve and the air/oil separator.
