S2000 reliability

S2000 reliability
I've got an S2000 right now that I'm thinking about buying and I've been driving it on an extended test drive, and I LOVE the car, but I do have one question. With this VTEC that can turn 9000rpms what is the reliability of the motor. Sorry to being into question the reliability of any honda, Ive have several and they all run better than anything else Ive got but can you beat this motor up and it wont blow up? The car I'm looking at has 46k on it and its a 2002, I just wonder what kind of life its had over the past few years and can it handle my driving, I love the sound when the vtec kicks in
Thanks guys, Erik

I think there are quite a few guys on here with over 100k miles... and I'm sure they weren't easy miles
I don't have an S yet either, but the reliability factor is one thing that seriously draws me to them. Anytime you can have a car that fun, that quick, and that rev happy be that reliable it's a win.

so far i have a car with 21,000 miles on it and it has never been to the dealer for any defect. it has not used any oil, it has been a constant joy to drive, it has always started, and maintenance is a snap and should continue to be.

Frikjmaser:
The S2000 has one of the best reliability records of any modern sports car. It's a Honda afterall!
Having said that, it is a high performance car with a high performance engine and, due to it's very nature, tends to be driven harder than "normal" cars generally are. That means it's more important that you stay on top of routine maintenance with these cars than it might be with less highly tuned vehicles. Beyond that, I wouldn't worry about reliability issues.

I have an 02 stock S and I rev her up pretty often. I had the same question you have when I got my first VTEC car (Integra GSR). I reved her up often too and the engine is doing fine.
When I got the S2000 I was hesitant on doing it first, because it was still new to me, but now I rev the S2000 up too. The car has been designed to handle it, so I wouldn't worry too much, that's what the feul cut off is there for. I say VTEC it as often as you like. I think on the show Fifth Gear, one of the drivers testing the S2000 said since the debut of the Vtec technology, Honda has not had one failure, correct me if I'm wrong, hope that helps you out.
