FI s2k's find surprisingly little gain in 0-60 time...

I recall a Sport Compact Car article with a Supercharged S pumping out 350hp, but the 0-60 time was still low 5s. They were shocked that they just couldnt improve the launch time, but the 50-70 times etc were all quicker. The only benefit was that they didnt have to drop in at 9k rpm in 1st gear

Low to mid 5's That is what I always see. funny thing is I have a have not been able to break the rear end loose on my 04... even dropping the clutch. Anyway most of speed limits around here are 35-45 I never get to sixty that much unless I want a ticket. One other thing ambient temprature is going to make a difference.

I was pretty irked that car mags had 0-60 times that varied by a full second or more. I know, I know... down with magazine racing and blah, blah.

But with the linear feel of some engines (BMW 3.0, G35), it's hard to get the butt-dyno calibrated.

But the difference between a 5.5 (C&D) and a 6.2 (Edmunds) is a $5000-7000 difference in performance. 0.7 is the approx difference between a BMW 325 and 330, the FX35 and FX45, etc. So it mattered to me.

Some car mags do 0-60 the way they think people would drive the car... with an automatic they just step on the gas. Other mags will torque load the auto with brake and throttle. Still others will give the 12inch roll-out like a track time... very hard to compare.

So I bought a Beltronics FX2 Vector and calibrated my own cars against the posted times to get a feel for what my cars do in MY hands. 'Cause that's what really matters, right?

S2000, '02. Reproducible 5.5-5.6 in my hands, car mag'd at 5.4ish.

Maxima SE, manual tranny, '98. Reproducible 6.8-9, car mag'd at 6.7.

I've used the Vector with a 2002 Acura TL, 2003 G35 Coupe, 2002 Chevy Cav (don't ask), and a few others. My driving gets results about a tenth higher than the posted stats.

I'm sure that with other's driving styles, times could vary from those numbers.

I got a Beltronics Vector FX2 for that very purpose... car mags range in time

Ckcrigger: curious, how were you launching the car when you got 5.5-5.6? What RPM? Dumped the clutch? Any wheelspin?

yeh what RPM did you launch at? If you always have to launch the s2k at 9k to get a decent time then thats another good reason to not race her. My old 300zxTT I usually launched at 3.5k, but even then you got just crazy wheel hop.

Currently on Dunlop SP5000's.
Launch is aggressive, but certainly NOT all out.
About what I do pulling at a traffic light when I want to get in front of a stock eclipse.
My usual:
Spool to 5-6k rpms
Clutch out quickly, lots of gas to keep the rpms from dipping under 3k.
Tires usually with little chirp.
Redline each gear.
Break 60 in 2nd close to redline.

I've timed the Honda with conservative launch (~3k, no chirp, but no bogging). 0-60 usually comes in at around 6.2-6.4 sec.

Once again, in different hands these times will vary.
Hope this helps.
Post if more questions.

Oh yeah, TOO much wheelspin in my hands makes for slower times. In my practicing, spinning the wheels for more than a second loses valuable traction and acceleration.

With the flux capacitor installed, I've heard you can reach 88 mph in 5.4 seconds. So I guess ya'll can do the math on the 0-60 time.

For those mathmatically challenged, that's (5.4/88)*60 or 3.68181818....
