Smile S2000 Owners unfreindly?

Okay i have had this car for about 4 months and i love it. Its a lot of fun... everyone says it, but the real deal is that it is just a fun car, like a toy to me. Anyhow I used to own a C5 Corvette and let me tell you... the message board was not filled with so much hate against their own cars. What i mean by this is the simple fact that i am a car lover... i didnt buy this car because i love Honda, but that does not mean that i bought it because i don't care. People come on this form a lot and start to diminish the car... why? Why are you on this form then? Everyone knows arleady this car isnt made for the drag strip and that its made for road courses and having a lil fun. That said this car is completely capable of making it on a drag strip. I am a car enthusiast and i like the fact that if i want to own a bright yellow S2000 and be happy with it then i can. And i also like the fact that i can go on to this form and talk about it. What i don't like is people that just bash on this car...why? Our cars are more formable then a lot of cars out on the road. What does a mustang cobra or Evo stand by you every 2 minutes on trafic or something and beat the gravy out of you? THis is why the car is not worthy as a sports car? Im sorry but owning this car to me is a priveldge to myself. I could be stuck with a Hyundia Elantra GT as a sports car. Not that there is anything wrong with owning that car, but like i said this is the s2000 form, not the i dont really like this car for any thing form. Have some more respect for our cars... because its not the 1/4 mile times, road course times, bodystyling, interior room, torque, or 4 more cylinders that its missing.... Its missing SOME respect.

Put it in the Special car class, Roadster, Convertible, 4 banger, RWD... what ever... would you rather own another roadster... if so then go ahead... but don't complain about the S like that either.

By the way how come most people don't wave or are even freindly on the road. I don't see that many s2000 here in orlando. I have only gotten 1 wave from a old timer. I like the wave.

S2000 owners are realistic and humble. We know our cars are not the best/fastest and for the most part will be the first to admit it. Would you rather us think our cars are the greatest ever like SRT-4, Evo, STI, or C5 owners?

It all boils down to the people involved. Right after I bought my S I was driving through a small town and an oncoming car flashed their lights and gave me the thumbs up. When the car passed me I realized it was a Ferrari 360.

LoL, even though I'm from the bay area that made me crack up. Just head through the castro district with that bright yellow sports car and you'll get plenty of love

On a side note, I love my s2000

I have yet to find a message board where the people on it would not bash another car and hold theirs up in high esteem. Here on s2ki for the longest time it was AP1 vs AP2 no holds barred fighting. Mine has the 9k rpm and is not watered down, mine has more torque and is more refined. Fact is we all love our cars and are passionate but sometimes some people take it a little to far. From prelude, clubsi, s2ki, roadfly, they all have their dumbasses in it that believe they are the best driver and have the best car. Sometimes the debates are fun but sometimes it gets a little on the rediculous side. Until I have enough money to buy a Vector or what ever, I will never have the fastest car on the road.

Funny.

Well, enjoy your ride. Who cares what others think.

Being realistic and honest about what one's car can and cannot do doesn't translate to hating the car. Personally I think we have enough message boards where everyone thinks their car is God's gift to automobiles. That's pretty prevalent even on this board.

I'm personally indifferent to the wave. One part of it is that here in California, there are many S2000s, and I'm not going to wave at all of them. The other part is, quite honestly, just because we drive the same car doesn't mean that I have a whole lot in common with someone else, so there's not much of a point in my opinion. That having been said, if someone else waves, I will return it. I just don't usually wave first.

After spending considerable time on any car specific (or motorcycle or fill in the blank) message board, I think it is easy to begin to assume that most folks view their cars in a manner similar to the views that you see on the board.

Some people criticize what they own because they are always looking for flaws. Others criticize what others own in order to establish that they (the critic) bought the right car in the first place.

Some people wave because they look for some sense of affiliation with like minded people. Often, they are surprised to discover that owning an S2 might be the absolute only thing they have in common with another S2 driver and that the other driver might have several characteristics that you wouldn't want to wish upon your brother-in-law.

Try waving at a Harley rider while you are on a Triumph Thunderbird Sport or a BMW R1150RT. Unless the Harley guy has been riding for >20 years, you are unlikely to get a return wave. If the Harley guy has been riding for <1 year, he will probably think you just flipped him off.

At this point in my life, I simply have the wave at the ready to return when I see it coming my way.
