An S2000 Owner Again

An S2000 Owner Again
Well -- after owning two Honda S2000s (an 00 and 01) -- I bought a 2001 BMW M3 convertible about a year and a half ago.
To say that was a big mistake would have been an understatement. While my M3 was an awesome car to drive -- it was in the shop ALL the time. In fact -- in 2004 Alone it spent 29 days in the shop alone (with less than 20,000 miles on the odometer).
I'd always missed the personality of my S2000 --- so I decided this spring to sell the M3 -- and buy another S2000.
After buying a S2000 off of ebay that was misrepresented by the seller -- and selling it -- I've now purchased a 2003 S2000 that I'm happy with.
So -- I'm back in the S2K family again -- and now I have a Spa Yellow S2k -- and i'm thrilled with it.

Ex-e46 M3 owners..why'd you guys sell your car for the s2000? I'd like to hear your reasons as I am currently deciding between a used m3 and an s2k.
1SXYCAR, what kind of problems were you having with the M3 that required it to be in the shop all the time?

It's a BMW. Enough said.
Who in their right mind would want to own one out of the warranty period and why would you want to spend so much money on miniscule performance in comparison to what else is available for $60k.

I am also considering a used E46 M3 as soon as I graduate college. Maybe I will have to reconsider though. For you former m3 owners, what are the negatives about the car besides the buttload of money you issue-forth for maintenance\insurance?

The 2001 M3 had only 6,000 miles on it when I purchased it (no accident history, no paintwork -- truly a cherry used m3)
It went back and forth to the shop for multitude of reasons including rampant electrical problems. The biggest of those problems prevented the car from started. Many times I'd valet park My M3 -- and the valet would have to come find me to have me "help" him start it.
Having my M3 towed into the shop to start was annoying. The Harmon Kardon stereo sucks -- and I think after 29 days in the shop last year - I'd had it.
It wasn't just the car, however, that enthused me to go back to Honda. The service at BMW was absolutely appalling.
When the service manager asked me to lower my expectations for the car because "it's not like you own a 5 or 7 series" -- i had it. Apparently buying an M3 convertible isnt enough to get resolution to repeat problems.
The kicker was -- had I purchased it new -- BMW would have bought it back under lemon law. Because I bought it used in the state of Minnesota -- I had no legal recourse.
So -- lesson learned. I've been driving my Spa S2000 all weekend and absolutely love it.
NO regrets at all.
