S2000 Nurburgring Track Time
#21
So thats were you guys are coming up with these times. I think it is a very inconsistant list - you have way too many variables, the biggest one being the drivers, to compare. How do I know the guy Sport Auto used to drive that day was an experienced level driver or a first year journalist? How many laps did he have on the ring compared to the guy from Top Gear?
Its harder to argue this point when you look at the lap times in R&T's recent test of the GTR, Z06, and GT3 - as they used the same pro level driver for all three cars on the same track on the same day. If they had used 2 more drivers in addtion to Millen for all cars tested, it would have really narrowed things down to be sure. It would be possible then to start talking about things like what tires each car used.

I really wouldn't consider the S2k a better handling car than most of the platforms you are comparing to either, certainly not in stock form and certainly not at real high speed corners.
The S2000 is not some magical sports car, spend 2 or 3 times more $ and you will get a faster car. To me what makes the s2000 special is the overall experience of owning/driving one, all at an incredible value. The engineering is so purposeful and reliable it is amazing that the car retailed for just over $30k, for $10k you can get a used high mile one and track the hell out of it for years to come. On top of all of this the owners are an awesome group to be involved with. So I am not surprised at all by the 8:39, I mean it likely was done "top down"
