S2000 Number Plate
I own a 2004 S2000 (I LOVE IT !!!)
so I`v just purchased a new number plate from some one ..
S200 DGB ( S2000 GB )
They have sent the plates with the purchase, the plates came off a 2002 S2000, and have holes either side for attachment
I had a look at my New car to way-up my attack at getting the new plates attached and ...... the 2004 plates look 'glued' on , absolutely NO holes, sign of screws .. etc
Can anyone give me a walkthrough of how to afix plates to my new S2000 ??
Best Regards

You should post this in the UK forum...
...plates in the US attach differently and are a different size.
FWIW, they arent glued on, just stong tape. Take a piece of dental floss and run it behind the plate (between the plate and holder) and work it from one side to the other in a cutting motion - plate should fall off.
When I was in the UK and had my '02, I removed the front plate holder completely, and instead of the full sized UK plate - instead had a motorcycle plate made with my # (S200GGT - read S2000 GT)
It looked 1000 times better.
HTH...again...you will get a much better response in the UK forum.

BTW, I heard from a friend some years ago that custom plates or "vanity" plates in England are incredibly expensive. Is that true?

CBeyond, up until a few years back registrations in the UK were in the format XYYY XXX, where X is a letter and Y is a number - the first X denoted the year of manufacture. So, you could randomly get allocated an S200 OXX or S200 DXX plate.
However, the system had already reached T as the letter denoting year of registration when the S2000 first came out in 1999, so anyone with an S200 OXX plate has bought it privately.
Some private registrations can be VERY expensive. However, the vehicle registration authority has taken to selling off certain plates quite cheaply - you can pick up an S200 OXX plate for

it also isnt unheard of for plates to fetch 6 figures....correct me if i am wrong but i think the most expensive plate sold was K1 NGS (KINGS) which went for $250,000+ at auction.
As Mark mentioned, it isnt like the US where you can have anything on the plate. There are no separate rules for "vanity" plates - it has to follow the standard issuing rules for new plates - so if you want something vaguely "vanity" you have to be creative!!
hence mikdys' example - KEU 1N - to just have KEVIN isnt allowed.
It makes it all the more confusing, and irritating, but entirely more satisfying when you see a good plate in the UK.
Also, in the UK you do not have to have a car to put a vanity plate onto. You can keep it on retention, which means you own the right to assign the mark, but have a certificate to prove it. I have owned MANY marks in my time there, as many as 5 at once at one point!
Here are examples of plates & how to make words:
PEN 15
A5 TON
LUV 80X
SME 11Y
DAV 1D
H1 2 YOU
you get the idea!
