There are probably as many different ideas about what makes a sportscar as there are cars on the road. The danger, with the S2000 and with other sports and sporty cars, is that many people buy it (them) without really understanding what they want and or what they are getting.

I suspect that many people expect to buy the car and have a stoplight racer. I suspect many people expect that they are getting a high speed highway cruiser or as already mentioned, a cute little convertable. These are all notions that fit within the realm of "sportscar". Therefore, to many people, buying a sportscar automatically gets them what they want.

The S2000 is not a stoplight racer or a drag racer. It is not the best choice for high speed highway cruising. And, it is more demanding than cute. It is noisy and it is rough. It is plain and simple and it is bare. There are few creature comforts. It is a nimble, quick, responsive, fun to own, fun to drive car that is as demanding as it is rewarding. It demands attention and concentration. It demands serious driving. It rewards by tickling your senses and thrilling your soul. If you are not prepared for that, the S2000 is not for you.

Before you buy, know the kind of "sportscar" that you want. The S2000 is not for everyone, I am happy to say.

The main issues have been discussed in the posts above, my trouble comes with the placement of the cup holder. So here is what i say:

1.) If you like to drink while ur driving, or go out to eat alot and need to carry drinks in your car the S2000 isnt for you!!!!

Nice post, Rob. Well said!

Indeed, thank goodness this car isn't for everybody. Lord knows, there are enough Accords and Camrys around...

Oh, what the heck, I'll add mine: This car isn't for the fainthearted.

That said, I want to reiterate what revit said... Sure, you can learn to drive RWD in an S. The shifter is like butter. And, if you have the maturity to drive it mildly for a while and learn, then great. I know, personally, I drive the car at, maybe, 3/10ths nearly all the time.

The tricky thing is that the S goads you on. It's so damn capable that you really have to watch yourself. Just my opinion...

I almost always carry a water bottle, and I put it in the footwell.

Someone who cant drive stick
Someone who wants a smooth ride.

2 things I love about it. Stick and a rough ride.

4. live in a climate where you can't take advantage of the handling

6. will buy it to beat other marques on the street

7. will not put the top down when feasible and appropriate
1 - only drove a '97 Z28 for a year or so, but never pushed it through twisties, just straight-lines, so I would consider myself a RWD newbie.

2 - I'm new to driving stick. Been doing it two months.

3 - adding mods is a good way to make cars faster, but it doesn't necessarily apply to every car, especially one as tuned as the s2000 is from the factory.

4 - depends. it rains and snows here. does that count?

5 - okay this one I know why but i still think it's a bit ridiculous to have to put tires on every 12k miles. :-p

6 - i would buy it for its unique and sexy look and the joy it is to drive, not for its performance versus other cars, so i guess im okay here too

7 - hmm, never been much of a convertible guy.

So I'm like 3 for 7 here. But I have driven an s2000 and loved it. :dunno:

Hey Purple buy the car or don't, but please stop with the:

What if
Should I
How does
What happens
Will I
Would you
Does anybody

You seem like a nice guy, but the majority of your questions can be answered 100+ times over by using the search functions.

the s2000 is for people who appreciate having to put in the skill and effort into making a car fast. it is also for people who value a simple and raw performance machine that places everything else in a lesser priority.

if the above two statement describes you 100% then the s2000 is for you. if it doesn't then you will not be completely happy with the s2000, no if, and, or but...

the s2000 is not torquey and so it's not for those who want to blow people away off the line. it does not have traction control and so it's not for those who's willing to put only 70% concentration into their performance adventures. the s2000 is not comfortable in any way so it's not for those who want a car that can also serve as a cruiser. it is also extremely cramped so it's not for those who likes to stretch out in their car.

i will not be ashamed to admit that although i've been using my s2000 as a daily driver that i have come to the conclusion that i can only accept this car as a supplement/fun car. i definitely can no longer live with it on a daily basis and am now in the market for a second car for my daily commutes...

the s isn't for people who detest getting looks from the opposite sex, or offers of a driveway to park it in, anytime

i have had mine for three days, after driving an '02 Mustang GT for the last year.

No it isn't for everyone, no car is.

Drive it and you'll know
