S2000 at MSRP in Northern California?
#1
I am ready to buy an new S2000 and have contacted several dealers in the San Francisco bay area. They all seem to have inventory, but are not willing to go MSRP. The best I've found so far is $33,800 (1500 over). Is this a good price? Or can somebody tell me where/how I can find one at actual MSRP.
Thx,

I got mine for about that price, just last night, in southern California. I thought that was a pretty good price seeing they wanted $37,740 for it.
BTW, its a Black on red interior, and I am loving it. Now I can understand what you guys are saying.

FWIW, $5,000 over was the going rate only six months ago. Some datapoints from my local shopping back in September...
Capitol Honda = forced options + $5,000 over
Dublin Honda = $5,000 over ($5k supposedly donated to a battered women's shelter)
Stevens Creek Honda = $5,000 over
Larry Hopkins Honda = $7,500 over!
Maybe things have swung in the buyers' favor since the weather is so lousy (relatively) up here lately.
Good Luck!

Thanks for the info 00SType,
Yeah -- methinks the slooowing economy here may have a lot to do with it also. Found one in San Leandro thats been on the lot for 3 weeks (according to the sales guy). Can't believe the Dublin guys actually had the nerve to tell you the 5k was going to a battered women's shelter! That's criminal. My wife and I bought a '95 Accord there -- wouldn't go back myself. Tomorrow I'm gonna try some dealers in Sacramento and see what they have to say for themselves.
BTW -- how do you like yours and what colors?
Thx,

Take it from me, Northern CA is about the toughest. I tried everywhere for several months. At my last visit for service at Walnut Creek I saw two in the showroom for +$5000. My suggestions, borne by months of looking and frustration:
1. Pay the measly 50 bucks and try out Priceline.com. No kidding, they found mine for MSRP in WAY Southern CA. I actually hate Priceline (my wife is a travel agent) but they ROCK for buying cars. Their West Coast guy, Ray Baldwin, is excellent.
2. Call Autowest Honda in Roseville and ask for Jet (no, not Jeff, but Jet). I could have got a car he had at the time (silver/black) for a thou over list, and if I really wanted the red interior (which I did) he wanted +$1500. Really good guy and if you are into racing at all he used to participate in IMSA back in the old days and has family links with some big NASCAR names as well. Great to talk to, I recommend.
3. Consider an out-of-state car. All US S2000 are specifically CA smog certified and the shipping in many cases is less than the markup in this area.
Dublin gives 5 grand to a battered women's shelter? That is one of the best I have ever heard. I am sure they itemize your contract so you can deduct it on your income tax.
Best of luck and let us know what you get....see you on the road!

Tracy Honda was also donating the $5000 over sticker to charity. I paid $3500 over sticker last April when I got mine in Lodi. At the time, Lodi Honda had a red one with every dealer-installed accessory which they were willing to let go for only a few hundred more than what I paid. It was a better deal but I wanted silver.

I'm with Bob Moss....try Priceline.com. I used them to purchase mine in So. CA at MSRP. It's only a $50 fee if they find a car for you...no hurt in trying. After doing a little research it easy to see there was no point in looking anywhere in No. CA.

I got mine at El Cerrito Honda. Paid $1000 over. It took some back and forth negotiation. Ask for Joie tell him avi sent you, don't tell him I told you what I paid. Phone #510-529-1323

In all these cases where the dealer claims to give the money to a charity... Could you just say "Give me the car at sticker, because I gave at the office"
Boy, thats really a new low. When I went C5 shopping almost 2 years ago, I heard every story in the book. "Oh, we have to sell at markup because we PAY MSRP for the cars in our inventory".

Hmm,
When the Stook first came out about 16 months ago, I went to Steven's Creek. They had a black/red one there and the pricetag was an obnoxious $50,000.
I then approached the sales manager and said that I was interested in purchasing one at MSRP. He said they would NEVER hit MSRP and refused to talk about it any further. I then said I'd buy one out of state just so that you wouldn't get my business.
Hopefully this market brings some sense back into the Bay Area, because things were really out of control when I left. I have heard that real estate prices are falling rapidly . . .
