I read the following on this forum:
Someone else said they had the same experience. Using Mobil-1 oil before about 7500 miles causes a noticeable loss of power in the S2000.
This indicates a couple of possibilities: (1) Someone is mad at Mobile Oil and wants to give them a bad rap. (2) Someone thinks I'm dumb enough to believe such a story and the joke's on me, or (3) It really is the case.
So, anyone had any such results with Mobil-1? My plans are to use nothing but Mobil-1 from my first oil change on. Any possibility of loss of power due to brand or chemistry of a lubricant seems ridiculous to me.
I left the Mobil-1 in for about 1500 miles the first time around. Experienced a substantial loss of power.

I switched to Mobil 1 @ 3750 for added protection, not power. Can't say I really noticed a seat of the pants difference, but if anything it s/b slightly faster b/c of lower friction. My car is def. getting faster as the miles build up, though! (currently a bit over 7K). I plan on sticking w/ Mobil 1 for the life of the car, and have used it on previous cars/motorcycles w/ no probs.

me, too. I always use Mobile One Synthetics for all of my cars. The S2000 has it since 3000 Miles. Now, it has over 24000 miles and still going. No problem here.

I've read countless times (on many boards, about many cars, and from a few mechanics) that it is important to run organic oil in the first 7500 - 10k miles. Reasons range from allowing for proper ring/sleeve seating to treating the engine seals. I honestly couldn't tell you a scientific reason not to change to synth earlier, but given all the advice to the contrary, I wouldn't do it. It's just 1 add'l oil change before the switch over - take the $$ you save and buy your S2K a muzmat...

Hi Garyj
Checked my old posts to confirm when it was I first changed to Mobil 1. Turns out it was at 4500 miles, not 7500. Here's my post from October:
"I changed oil at 4,500 miles to 10W30 Mobil 1, lost a whole lot of power. Hand timed 0-60 soared into the 7 second range. VTEC sensation was dull - no hilarious ferocity. Changed to Castrol GTX at about 6K (also 10W30). Grins are back. Go figure. I've used Mobil 1 (5W30) on my 93 Legend LS coupe 6spd, changed every month since about 10K miles (now over 120K and like new) and it works great in that car. When my S2K hits 10K miles, I'll try the Syntec."
I've used Mobil 1 on my cars since it first came out. I hoped it would let my S2K rev more quickly to red line. I figured it was more slippery and would get me to 60 even quicker. Didn't work that way.
I just changed back to Mobil 1 today at ~16000 miles. I'm not sure yet, but I don't think it's quicker, and maybe slower, again. I tried to check my oil level when I filled up, but the darn stuff is so clear, I couldn't see the oil level on the dipstick under artificial lights. I think I'll go down to the garage and use a flashlight to confirm proper oil level.
BTW, forgot to try Syntec.

In my experience, there was no correlation between high temps and the performance loss.
To be fair to Mobil, there are many other members who use M1 who report no performance loss. For me, it was very noticeable.
