Default S2000 Lover (opinion needed as well)

I have loved the S2000 ever since the day I have first seen one on the street, badass lines and I love the grunt.

I'm 18, living with my parents, they just recently leased me a 2002 Maxima 6spd, with HLSD(Nissan's traction Control, or Helical Limited Slip Differential as they call it).Car is quick, real quick for a 4 dr. sedan, I just wanna know How much faster the s2000 is, and it's differences as far as gearing and acceleration go.

Some guy in the Maxima forum ran a 14.2 in his stock maxima with 6spd.

I heard of 13.7 with S2K's, is that bone stock?I sure hope so!

After the lease on the Maxima is up, S2K here I go, I can't wait, that will be my first car paid with my earned money, and modded too.

What do you S2K owners think of the Maxima, any potential at all(stock)?

How much would it cost to have an S2K running low 12's, and what would it take to do it?What combinations of material are needed to make the S2K run low 12's?

I'm really glad I found this forum, I had looked for a while for an S2K forum, damn search engines...

If any of you could answer the questions I have asked, it would be appreciated, I hope to learn alot here in this forum about my next car, god knows I got the time to do it!

The S2000 isn't meant for drag racing... I don't know if it's possible to get a streetable S2k in the low 12's. Supercharging can make them significantly faster, but not THAT much faster (I think).

it's an excellent all-around roadster out of the box. but don't be fooled by it's simplistic lines and sexy looks... it's a BEASTUS when you push it to it's limits... and just like any BEASTUS pushing it too far will only result in the car turning around and biting you in the arse.

plain and simple: it's a excellent car. sticks the road like a baby to it's mom. as tame or as wild as you want it to be. with a powered softtop, optional hardtop, leather trimmed interior, F1/CART-like gauge, firm chassis.. you can't ask for much more in a $32k roadster.

How much different is the s2000 from a maxima?

Maxima is pretty quick for a 4dr sedan.

How different is acceleration?Gear Ratios?Handling?

I don't understand this question. They are two totally different cars. Why don't you ask for a comparison between the Maxima and an M3? A roadster and a sedan are two different animals.

If you were willing, you can put a 50 shot and s/c and be in 11's...

As far as comparison, I have no idea... I do know that a guy with am 89 mustange that runs 11.7*** asked for a ride in my car today and said "1st and 2nd gear in this thing feel faster than mine" he later went on to say that he would respectively spank me after 2nd... but it sure is quick, quicker than I thought... I love it.

If anybody tried to discourage you from taking your S to the strip, fugk 'em!
If you want to drag it, drag it.
Yeah it's a roadster blah blah blah
Whatever. Do your own thing.
When's your lease over? B/C if it's a couple years, you might as well wait for the next gen S. Honda's putting IVtec on it. It should hit around 270 horses. Since it's IVtec, it's going to have a lot more potential to tune too. You're probably going to easily push 300 horses N/A. Wait for IVtec. Can't fugk w/ IVtec.

How much different is the s2000 from a maxima? Maxima is pretty quick for a 4dr sedan. How different is acceleration?Gear Ratios?Handling?

There's a 'night and day' difference. Even though there might be less then 1sec on a 1/4mile time between the two cars, S2000 is 100x more resonsive and agile. S2000 will out-brake, out-turn and out-handle it like there's no tomorrow. Comparing the Maxima to an S2000 is like comparing an M5 to a Ferrari F360 (or a 911 GT3) ... they might have close enough acceleration on the paper, but when it comes any stretch of road/track then the M5 stands no chance.

S2000 is possibly the closest thing to a race-car for the road while the Maxima is a FWD family sedan - two total opposites of the car spectrum. As nice as the Maxima is, it does not even compete with the better engioned German RWD/4WD sedans (or a WRX) in terms of perfrormance/handling, let alone with actual 'sports cars'.

Let me retort with a question - do you think that the Maxima is anywhere close to (in terms of performance/handling) to a Porsche Boxster S,an M-Roadster or e36 M3? If your answer is "no" - then the same thing appies to the S2000 as the S2000 is very much on par with these cars in terms of perfromance/handling (in some regards arguably superior).

Just for reference look at these lap times from a single driver, same track, same conditions ... look where the S2000 'fits' and see where you think the Maxima should be:
