I don't think Honda will stop production anytime soon even though that was one of the reasons why I bought one in 2000. Honda probably stopped the production of the Prelude to boost s2k sales.

thats too funny; almost from day one Honda has said that is would be a limited production car (yep; and that's true as it's production facilities for this car envolve a lot of hands on and production is limited but growing). The pres. of Honda also said that it was a profit center and that they were making a profit on the S2000 in less than six months; and, get this many of the early reports said that it, the S2000, had a anticipated production run of 10 years! Believe who you want.

production run of 10 years is hard to believe. nsx could do because its an exotic car and its technological advantage was way ahead of its competitors until recently. such is not the case with the s2k. its a superb car, but rivals will easily surpass it in a few years. more likely, honda will offer 2nd generation s2k around '05. especially knowing its main competitor, bmw z3, will be updated very soon.

The cost of design and engineering a new car have dramatically reduced in the past few years. The advance of virtual engineering and CAD means that a vehicle can go into production in as little as 14 months. Therefore antiquated thinking says that it is ungodly expensive to produce a new model but reality says that it is not!

The S2000 is a relatively simple car...Big HP combined with reliable components already used in Honda Mfg. To me this is part of its charm. However, expensive to design/engineer/build it was not. And we all know that the $30,000 to $40,000 "nitch" or "personal reward" market (as some reference it) is a hotbed of competition!

In a world economy for automobiles, the US (sorry to those of you in Aus.) is the most influential market. We have the largest and most diverse target population of effluent society. Regardless of what happens elsewhere, if a car meant to be sold worldwide cannot stay competitive in the US it will not survive. If Honda wants to say competitive it will make changes to the S2000. In business, continuous improvement is vital to any lasting success! Especially when the public is continually growing more educated and wanting bigger and better rewards for their accomplishment.

Like I always say, We will all find out together...
