S2000 - The king of the 'affordable' hill???
#21
So, I'd guess then that an AWD DSM or the new WRX would probably rip the S2000 a new one due to its forced induction? And if the S2000 does that well against Vettes up there, the WRX would really leave them shaking their heads I'd hate to be driving a Vette and get beat by a wagon...
I had a friend who lived in Austin a few years back... had an AWD Eclipse that was running mid to low 13s. Then he did a few more mods to it, before moving to Denver... I gather he leaves a lot people in the dust...

[B]A little off topic, but, yesterday I beat a new mustang gt with my Boxster, not only once, but twice, and he is the one who asked me if I "wanted to catch a light".

In theory, yes, forced induction rules around here, but the wrx is still no match due to the tremendous amount of driveline loss due to awd and the aditional weight. It is not mainly that the car has or does not have forced induction, but how effectively a car uses the air it does get. Big V8s require more air and are crude (as far as efficency) as compared to the hondas, BMWs, audis etc. The s2000 does very well up here, due to the technology involved. For example, my modded up audi 1.8 (traded for s4) would beat vettes all of the time, but got waxed every time when racing my uncle's 993 cab, which by the way, had less power and torque, proving that efficency is king, not necessarily forced induction.

So, an S2000 would REALLY be something up there with the Comptech S/C
the reason I mentioned the AWD is because then you have a 4 seasons car that still goes like stink...

With a SC and some mild head work (polish only to increase velocity) the S2K could lay waste to a lot of things up here, if driven correctly. The s2k is still hard to perfectly launch, while high torque, low rev motors are easy.
BTW if you want a bad ass AWD with turbos, I can get used S4s all day for the cost of a new S2k. Another thing, If I ever go forced induction, I am sure that my s2k will walk all over my heavily modded S4, strictly based on power to weight, and driveline losses in the S4 due to AWD.
As for the WRX, I too think it is a great bargain, but have never liked subaru body and interior quality (you pay for the AWD and the engine, they have to save money somehow to keep the car reasonable).
Aus2k, nice quote!!!

The new body does look a bit odd ... its basically a 25k version of a 16k car... Thats the problem with most of the cheaper sporty compacts... A Civic Si is still a hopped up Civic... but atleast in this case, the quality of the Honda materials is first rate...
My Sentra SE-R was a hopped up Sentra. Again, the materials used were still better than most of the other cars in class...
The WRX interior... well, its ok, but not up to the level of the Civic IMO (96-00 Civic)...
Basically, you pay 5k for the turbocharged engine at subaru (and a little nicer stereo). The RS sedan has (I think) the same interior as the WRX) and same wheels, etc...
18995 vs 23995...
I guess that the non turbo model is priced along with other entry level sedans like Sentra, Civic, etc... I think its funny how the WRX is priced close to cars like the Celica GT-S and Eclipse GT... the new Eclipse is actually pretty nice... sporty, but without the hardcore power. More refined, etc... I'd sure be mad if a wagon WRX beat my new Eclipse GT though... but seems like most people buying new Eclipses aren't the same guys that lusted for the turbo GS-T and GSX

Thanks, it's the firast thing that came to my mind

parkerfl As I was driving along tonight....I started to think...what other cars are out there that can beat the S2k for less than $40-45k
as i was aware there was no mention about interior quality....some of you said that about the WRX

1) The Lotus Elise IS available in the US, just not designated (read: emissions) for the street.
2) The Corvette ZO6 OUTPERFORMS the Ferrari Modena is most categories (as well as any other mass produced car). But it is still a Chevy!
