S2000 HID light
#22
the ap1 and ap2 use the EXACT same projector and light output is equal.
evo lights are pretty, but not up to s2k spec in output.
i was just thinkining general purpose flashlight. i hate replacing batteries.

ap1 and ap2 have a different ballast, I believe, dyhppy, which might have an effect -- although I'm not certain of that. In any case, I think a new HID tube will be sharper than one you've used for a few years.
I love the lights too, BTW, though I've heard a lot of folks complain about the fact that very little light is shed outside the boundaries of the lit area. The cutoff is quite pronounced, and you have to be careful not to drive outside the bounds of the low-beams (if you can't switch on the highs for some reason).
I have one "problem" with the system overall that I don't like, which is that when the lights are off and I want to flick my high beams, the system also turns on the HID low-beam (I don't know if the MY04+ do this, but my MY02 does). I think flicking the HID is not good for it, and I wish the high beams only came on.

im not sure that it does reduce the life. it's not a filament that expands and contracts. it's like a neon tube in office buildings. i'm under the impression it can be turned on and off without damage.
does anyone know for sure
I just checked with hid planet. they say it hurts it if it's not warmed up.

I think out of all the cars I've owned, the best HID light in terms of output was on my 1999 GS400.
You simply can't find a brighter oem light that is also pure BLUE
At the time I was living in Indiana and on country roads it's unbeatable. I also had a 2000 Audi S4 at the time and that light was no comparison to the GS400 - my brother drove the GS once and was like OMG.
The s2000 light is a good all around light but could be a bit more blue. Certainly better than the OEM 4300k color on my M3 if you are comparing stock to stock.
I swapped out my m3 hid's (which are bi-xenon) to new 8000k bulbs and now it's perfect. STILL not as bright as the GS400 stock though....
On a side note, has anyone put aftermarket D2S 6000k bulbs in the OEM s2000 lights? I forgot what stock "K" the bulbs are?

thhe blue effect is deceiving. yellow helps the human eye see better. however, i enjoy blue white light as well, but in terms of lumens, there is no way blue is a better light than yellow/white.
