What kind of oil filter? Honda PCX? And, no, most likely no internal engine damage.

Internal engine damage is unlikely, but fire damage is a real possibility. Especially if there was a wire harness or other plastic bits near the fire. The dealer should find it though.

Estimated $1800 to fix from the Honda dealer here. Apparently it fried the wiring harness in the engine bay and they want to replace it. Going to have insurance go for it.

Carfax was clean, but apparently the engine in the car was from a junkyard...

Does that constitute a buyback? This is working out to be a horrible week

Ouch, I'd go after the dealer for that. I wouldn't touch the car at this point.

It was a used car dealer in Alabama. I don't think there is any way I can prove they were at fault.

Sorry about your misfortune.

Try to go after them. Write a letter that is certified or something. This was less then 30 days dude. No reason, whatsoever to go through this type of mularkey in under a months times.

That sucks I for you.

Apparently they bought it off auction, and upon calling the auction they claimed to have bought it from Honda Financial...
Doesn't that mean it should have a buyback title?

The original manufacturer bought it back...

Carfax reported no buyback and they garuntee that.

IANAL, but, you should research the state law in Alabama and the purchase agreement. Sounds like the title / history may not be entirely clean. Call the car lot and a lawyer and make sure not to take a hit on the insurance for a claim...good luck.

that sucks man, hopefully everything works out for you. I would talk to somone like a lawyer and see what he thinks about it and see what he thinks you can do about it.

I would guess it was the oil filter.
