A rotary is totally different from our type of engine and comparing output/liter and RPM's isn't really a valid comparison. There aren't any production automobile engines that rev as high as ours now. The F360 is the closest at 8500.

I think it's 8400 RPM redline, and then fuel cutoff is a little above that, but the C5's stock drivetrain can handle 9000 RPM no problem.

maybe the old 2.0-liter flat-12s of the '60s/70s... or the 3.0-liter V-10s of today...

but those are F1. no Ferrari currently in production goes past 9k. the closest is the 360 modena, at 8600rpm (i think)

actually, the Ferrari Enzo Ferrari (hehehe, that name cracks me up so) may surpass the S2000 in rev wars, but it's not exactly as accessible as an S2000

The highest I have ever seen my car go is like 8960. That is the revs bouncing off of the rev limiter. I did this in all the gears and I have never seen anything above 8960. By the way, I have a VAFC that displays the RPM in a numerical value (as well as a peak hold).

The current BMW M3 revs pretty high...near 9000 if I remeber correct. Anybody got the facts?

the s2000 has the highest redline of any piston, production, car engine in the world. i remember reading this in a car and driver article. the 3.6 liter v-8 in the ferrari 360 modena is next with a 8500 rpm redline. motorcycle engines can go higher, some rotaries and of course racing engines. (ever watch a formula one, cart or irl race?) but as for piston, production engines in cars, the f20c is the "rpm champion."

I heard during the last F1 race, that the BMW f1 engine now has cracked the 19.000 rpm mark

Motorcycle engines rev MUCH higher - there are quite a few bikes you can buy direct off the showroom floor that rev double or more (i.e. 20,000 revs) than our measly 9,000 revs.
