s2000 driving in the winter?
i know this sounds crazy, but i'm a 21 year old guy, and i'm looking for a new car, i rode in the s2000 and i love it. but i have a question, i know ur gonna tell me to do a forum search, but i couldnt find the topic. i was just curious how many people attempt to drive the car in the snow, not like alot of snow, but like pact down snow, because i live in the midwest, chicago area that is , and i would like to get your opinion on it. my friend has a mazdaspeed miata, and tells me he cant get traction anywhere, so he garages it for the winter. yet me being 21, i dont have enough money to purchase 2 vehicles, can i get some opinions on this?

My S2000 is my only car and I've driven it on snow on the stock SO2 tires the last 2 winters. The drive is always nerve racking on the snow. I just go nice and slow but the car still "slips" once in awhile. I guess, I'm used to driving on snow with RWD drive car since all the car I've owned before has been RWD Anyway, to be in the safer side, just invest some money on some Blizzaks tires for the winter. I heard it's really good on snow. Check out www.tirerack.com or ask Jim@tirerack.com at wheel and tires forums about winter driving with snow tires.

Rear wheel drive cars of all types drive around my town all winter - S2000s, Miatas, Benzes, BMWs, Lexus, Crown Vics, 2WD pick up trucks. There is absolutely no reason that it should be a "nerve racking" experience if you equip the car with the proper equipment to do the job it's asked.

I drive the car in the winter with S03's. If there is any snow on the pavement, you can not drive at all, and if there's any ice, the same. A 2nd set of wheels with snow tires should be all you need. There no sport to this sports car in the winter, just very basic A to B transportation. I am sure you can find a used set of wheels with snow tires for under $1000 pretty easily? One heartbreaker in the car would cost that anyway, and you can sell the wheels again if you no longer own the car.
NASCAR donuts are pretty fun and don't wear down the tires much in the winter... I do have a 2nd car to use in the winter, but I find it easier to just drive the S2000 once a week or so rather than prepping it for storage.

I have just as much fun, if not more, in winter than I do in summer. You can do slides, drifts, clutch drops, ebrake turns and the ocassional donut and never worry about hurting the drivetrain. And those 100 foot rooster tails of slush and snow are priceless, not to mention drag racing those doofuses in their "invincible" AWD, all season tired cars and SUVs. This car may be the only thing that makes winters around here bearable.
Drive a beater? What in the Hell for? Isn't winter depressing enough as it is?
I bought this car for fun and entertainment and as a daily driver. Not just in the summertime but ALL YEAR ROUND.
