I have an S2000 because it was as high as I could go on my "list of cars I'd like to own" without breaking the bank.
The Miata is on the list too, just not as high up.

i dont see any real bashing over there.. miata's seem to be nice too, i wanna test drive the new supercharged ones with the hardtop vert 
the one thing i have to say tho... how come when they compare both cars, many of them tend to compare an FI'd miata to a stock s2?

If you go through the miata thread with a broad brush stroke, you will see a pattern: miata owners prefer the miata because of the price; it's their #1 argument.
There are deals all over the place for the S2k versus the NC miata, which just came out. Right now, if they have to start over again and shop for a 2-seater vert, they would pick the S2000.
Remember, alot of those owners bought the miata when:
a) S2000 wasn't out yet
b) S2000 had huge markups back in early 2000s and the miata was a hella deal.
There are deals all over the place for the S2k versus the NC miata, which just came out. Right now, if they have to start over again and shop for a 2-seater vert, they would pick the S2000.

My friend had a 95 miata SE and I've ridden in a '99 modified N/A miata at the limit with an excellent driver and they are completely different cars from an S2000. There really is no comparison. The modified miata can take turns at a bit higher entrance speed and carry that speed through the corner whereas the S2000 has to come in slower and out faster to maintain control. All in all the S2000 feels more solid but if I had to pick one car to drive at the limit on a curvy road I think I'd pick the miata simply because it's more forgiving than the S.
As far as ownership I'd much rather have to maintain, pay insurance on and buy tires for a miata but I like the S2000 better for everything else.

I think most people here would trade their Miatas for an S2000 in a heart beat...they just can't afford one.
Why would you say such a thing? Miatas are great cars.

Having driven both, the miata seems to me to feel lighter and more "tossable" through turns. The S feels more planted and bigger overall, not as loose. That said, I like both cars, though the S is my dream car and I wouldn't trade it for the world.
As far as price, a comparable miata to the S (based off mazda.com's build a vehicle) option wise, runs about 28K, with the 166hp engine. So we pay more, but get more power-wise, plus I see more miata's on the road than the S so in my own head, the S feels more rare (I don't have numbers to back that up, just my own observation).
In the end, both cars are great and fill a need that enthusiats have, which not many car makers seem to understand.
