s2000 as DD

[QUOTE=MADANT15,Oct 4 2007, 09:15 PM] Well, I don't know what cars you are used to, but I started driving on a 2002 4 cyl Camry, so the s2000 is pretty damn quick in comparison, especially in the twisties.

Really? Why is self restraint needed? There's not that much torque, and it's not that fast. I mean evo yeah but s2000?
The biggest issue is the handling: the S2000 is one of the easiest cars to oversteer for many reasons. Even the AP2 is pretty loose by OEM standards. It's very popular with autocrossers as a result, but it takes a pretty good driver to catch a rotating S2000. If you don't mind the rear end, it will come out...fast....911 fast.
There are many reasons why this happens.

the thing is not that it has a crapload of torque, it's the sudden huge increase in power in a very short period of time that kicks out the rear, combined with the light weight of the car and the lack of any computerized stability control (in pre-2006 models)

No, there is not much torque, but a sudden rush of power when VTEC kicks in can really upset things if you're not ready for it.

Self restraint is needed to not go fast, but not to control your car once you're already going fast. Just don't make stupid choices when you're driving and even a 17 year old will be fine driving a s2000.
I think where I'm getting at is that you guys are making the s2000 sound like a beast with too much power, and young drivers need to be careful not to step on the gas too much or he'll crash or something.

if you are concerned with space, the S2k is not for you. I DD my car everyday, put 20,000 miles on her last year. Even the GF dont complain about space (because she loves the car too) and she happily put all the stuff on her lap.
speaking of space, you be amazed what fits in the car when the top comes down. I use to fit my Trek in the passenger seat before i got a bike rack. I can also fit my 7 ft surf board in the passenger seat when the top is down.

Not me. I was just thinking how PRACTICAL the S2000 was compared to an Elise or Pontiac Solstice.
