S2000 as a daily driver????
Hi folks. I'm new here and from what I've read this is a great board. I'm trying to search for a new car to replace my 01 Prelude next summer. I'm considering a new (if I can get it for about a grand under MSRP......fat chance) or used (1yr 10K miles) S2000. I will be using whatever I get as my one and only car to replace my Prelude. Is this feasible. I'm 22 and dont have any marriage/significant other plan although I do love to travel. Is there anyone out there that is in the same boat? How does the S2000 perform as a daily driver. Also, I've though of a used NSX, but w/o a warranty, it is quite scary. Any and all opinions are welcome.

Buy an S2000 and then spend $2000 on a cheap used car to drive daily. Save your S2000 for fun driving...its not the best car to drive in daily rush hour traffic and you'll like it so much you'll want to keep it like new anyway and not put 12000 miles on it in your first year.

I actually have a throw away car. An 88 Civic hatchback. Its one of those cars that if you were driving home from the store and it quit you just take the license plate off and leave it. I bought it origianally for $200.00 to keep the miles off my Prelude, but that plan hasn't worked . I just love driving my Prelude so much that I make excuses to go places.

What's the point of buying a nice car and not driving it? Come on, it is an S2000, not a Ferrari 360. I drive mine everywhere. You are driving a prelude now and I don't think the "hard" ride of the S2000 will be a problem for you. Actually, I think the S2000 is quite comfortable comparing to my old car (lowered).

I know the cars dont share a common platform, but just how different will it be from my Prelude? Night and day? With my mods I run a 14.6 and usually hear about flat 14s from stock S2000s. Is the power as peaky or peakier than the Prelude? I'd love to hear from former Prelude owners who now drive S2000s (if there are any).

Yea, drive it every day- let people ding the doors, let rocks fly up and hit the windshield, and let it sit in the parking lot at your work and get rained on regularly and bird crap on the paint. What a great use of a S2000...to transport you to work and sit in the lot. No its not a Ferrari, but its going to reflect how you drive and take care of it. If you want to drive it daily, expect the same wear and tear you get from any other cars- paint, engine, etc...
Again- yes, its not a Ferrari, but if you like the way it looks and runs when you buy it, don't make it a daily driver- you don't need to put miles on it in heavy stop and go traffic only to let it set all day. Get a used car for that and trust me, you won't be sorry...

I may try to drive the old Civic for daily duties but I'm sure that with a car like an S2000 its hard not to just drive it for the hell of it. What type of maintenance does it require?

After a day of hard work, it is very relaxing to ride on your S2000, topless (the car)...... Trust me...
In terms of speed, S2000 is quicker than a prelude. You can feel the difference. In terms of handling, S2000 is better than a prelude only for the drivers with skills. I have been driving a front wheel drive for 8 years and I am still not used to the S2000 during corners.

The car seems pretty awesome. I've only sat in one at the dealer, actually it was the day I picked up my Prelude. Obviously the S2K will be quicker, but just how much quicker. It seems that really good deals can be had on slightly used ones. I've seen 2000/2001 models with 10-18K miles for around $27K. I considered a used NSX for a while until I did some research and found that 93s are still going for over $39K!!! I'm sure it is a great car, but I'd be so worried about theft/vandalism.
