let me tell you my biggest problem with the S. finding a parking spot! I have to park mine outside at work, and i always try to park away from everybody and at the same time find a shaded area. checking the weather daily to see if it's gonna rain that day or not, so i can decide whether to put the car cover or not.

having the top down is always nice,
but i also love it when it rains.
kinda like having your umbrella on the street hearing the rain drop.
i find it romantic in a way.

Thanks for all of the responses. So yeah i am 22, single with no kids and wouldnt be hauling a lot of stuff (including people) so i am not worried about the space issue. My past cars have all been upgraded and i have had RWD and FWD(H23 prelude, firebird and SHO) but now i am basically over modifying my cars. it would be my DD but i wouldnt mind it since i am young and enjoy the connected feeling to the road that the S2000 has.
my dad has a 2000 boxster which he lets me drive occasionally and it is awesome, love the roadster feel but the repairs are expensive! does anyone know the insurance difference between the S2000 and the Si, this could actually be a deal breaker if the S2000 is substantially more.
this is a tough choice so thanks for your input.

I have a 06 Si (wifes car) and we both love it.

I test drove a 2007 S2000 last week and didn't think the car felt as fast or powerful in the low end of the RPM's, I was surprised.

In the last 6 years.... Honda has done some amazing things to the bottom end of the rev band with the 06 SI 197 HP.... I found myself waiting for the S2000 to get up into the higher RPM's and then once there...not as quick as the O6si feels (feel and sound are better in the si, even if stop watch times are faster in the S2000) ... again back to what the other guy said about the S2000 might shine on the track but on the street, driving around in traffic I liked the 06 Si better.

I am going back to Honda on Wed. at 9:00am to test drive another S2000 they have the new 2008's in (with all the fins)... and I'm hoping I just got a bad 2007 on that last test drive (maybe the lot demo was a bit beat-up)

Anyway...hoping for better results this time. My wife is on-board for the new car and I'm the one thinking twice (usually its the other way around). I'll let you guys know what happens after my next test drive.

( my past cars were 93 MR2, and 97 Z3 )

If the S2000 doesn't impress this time.... I'm afraid next step is to save for another yaer and go for the used NSX, but I'd rather have a new car.
I don't like the idea of finding parts and fixing a older car... but If I'm spending $10k more for a car (or $20k more) I want something that stands out enough from the 06Si
Damnit... where did I put that troll smiley?

just do your own manual update on the s2000.

all you need is a small aftermarket kit made by comptech.

um markstudy dude i just dont think you know how to drive....

The Si doesn't not feel even anywhere near S2k speeds. The S2k will outhandle and outrun it anyday....

Your thinking is whats wrong with most people nowadays and the "fast&furious" mentality.... All you care about is the low down torque....

Listen drive the car like its meant to .... rev it up to 8 or 9k depending on which version.... take a turn that is recommended of 35 at 70 and tell me that the Si is better afterwards....

You can say what you want about honda not changing the s2k but in all honesty WHY SHOULD THEY? The car had sold decently and they did not have to put any extra developmental costs. The car sells it self. The s2k doesn't even get any advertisments until 2008 Cr came out.

The s2000 is what like 8-9 years old and it still can burn a Boxster and gives the Boxster S a run for its money to right?

Think about what you say before you speak.... do some reading on this forum or better yet go take a drive with a fellow s2ki memeber near you.... you'll c why we all love the s2000

Sorry, but that's not the problem
I've got plenty of track time in Spec Miata class. No problem with low HP cars and having to carry your speed. I think Miata is the best way for the average guy to experience racing.

Let.... me put it another way (I'm trying not to hurt anyone's feelings)

in 1999 when you jumped out of a Civic and into a S2000 you could tell why you were spending the extra $12k. It was very impressive!

Now the gap has closed. Sure the S2000 is still considered one-step up on the Honda food chain. But the 197hp engine in the new 06 SI is so much fun and has addressed some of that low-end mush that the S2000 has always been criticized for.

When I stepped out of my 2006 Si and into the S2000 I didn't feel $12,000 worth of upgrade in the engine. I didn't feel any. (I hope the 2007 S they let me drive was was just a ragged-out lot demo, and I'm giong back to try again, fingers crossed for a better experiance this time)

New car's have closed the gap. Look at Ferrari, you can buy a Vette for a third of the price with the same tack times. Ferrari use to be so far out front, and now there are a lot of cars in that class, and on there heels.

So, as one of the new car buyers looking at the S2000, I'm surprised that there wasn't a bigger difference in performance from the 06 Civic SI

Someone trying to make a choice between the two cars might like to hear that if he does pick the Civic SI .... he didn't make that bad of a pick.

I'm not worried about impressing the girls or hoping my school friends think I'm cool. I might be in another class since I"m older and have a wife....funny thing, you don't judge cars on past reputation, you start looking at what you are actually getting for your dollar.

NOW I THINK ITS FUNNY IF I BUY THE S2000, YOU GUYS WILL ALL GIVE ME CRAP, BECAUSE I JUMPED INTO THIS SITE WITH THIS AS MY FIRST POST AND I'LL NEVER HEAR THE END OF IT. BUT WITH AGE COMES A SENSE OF NOT CARING as much about WHAT's the Market Buzz, and I enjoy that freedom to speak my mind even if its not the hip or cool opinion that the marketing department wants you to buy. You guys are all smarter and more experianced. But I'm trying to share what this new car buyer is thinking about the S2000...

I also agree with all of you that I think the orginal poster should pick the S2000.I think the 06 Si spools up faster in the low revs, and is more boy racer for a young driver. He will probably be more mature and safe in the S2000 .

As for your second point.... I agree. I don't plan on posting on other threads. I'm here to learn. But on this thread... I feel qualified to speak becaues I am going through a buying process and as the orginal poster.... we have a few thought in common.... and I want to share that - HE CAN"T GO WRONG EITHER WAY

either get the AP2 S2000, or an old (02) Civic Si

theres no point paying almost the same for AP2 with a 2006 Si. If youre "downgrading", atleast save some money while youre at it.
