S2000 Buyer vs. 350 Z Buyer
#11
I really never considered the S2k until after I drove it. I'm sure I'll catch a lot
of crap on here, but before I drove it, I was never that infatuated with the S2k.
Then I drove it and really found my interest IMHO.

Maybe what I said came across a little wrong. What I meant was that it kind of seemed to me that 350 Z buyers were more like the "impulse buyer" type while we were the more "reader/ researcher" type.
Just from listening to them last night and a few others I know, like my manager, I have just gotten the impression that the 350 Z buyers kind of just saw the Z and thought that it was a nice "looking" car, drove it and thought that it drove good and bought it.
People that responded to this thread all talked about how they drove multiple cars before buying the Z, however, they may have already been learning toward the S2000 in the first place, but because of their research type nature, they felt it necessary to at least drive other cars.
I know that I looked at several other cars beforing buying both of my S2000's, however, I was very much a magazine reader. I knew all the specs before I stepped foot on the lot and the sales men were more like obstacles than help. I only needed them to communicate my wishes to "The Man" behind the glassed area.
On the other hand, the 350 Z people seem like the tye to kind of walk into a show room and just see the 350 Z and say, oh... look at that car. Isn't that the 350 Z? Aren't they suppose to be like fast or something? And then the sales man says, "why yes, and the car can fly too etc etc etc... I also have this bridge in New Mexico that I'm trying to sell yada yada yada.... yea, you need lowjack... and gap insurance... and a 100,000 mile warranty etc etc etc." And the next thing you know, they have a 350 Z.

I would suggest that a lot of those that have decided on the S2000 before driving it have come from a background of owning other performance Hondas and know exactly what a VTEC engine is all about, I am one of them. I did consider the Impreza STi, RX8, EVO and 350Z but never test drove any of them. I test drove the S2000 twice before buying it.
I reckon that most people that buy the 350Z or even the Audi TT haven't or won't even consider the S2000 and have basically made the decision on the back of reviews they have read and how the car's interior and exterior looks.

Are there any of you that bought the s2000 purely because u wanted a sporty car and its the best honda makes??(other than NSX of course)
I really like the 350z but i have always had hondas and im afraid to own anything else. Every day i drive in my buddys 350z and im like WOW TORQUE IS NICE! AND SO IS ROOM!
Anything but Honda scares me and makes me worry about reliability, quality, and community. I wanted an S2000, test drove a MY00 when i was 17 and told myself "Im joining the airforce and buying one as soon as i get out of basic training". I bought my MY01 after a 5min drive and here i am!

My parents have always had Hondas/Acuras, from a 95 civic, to a CR-V, to 2 TLs, RSX, and RL. Non of them had any problems, maybe that's why I have also always driven Honda/Acuras.

I own/ have owned two Civics, an Accord, and a CRV. I was aware of the good looking convertible from Honda but never thought I could afford a third car. (translation: wife wouldn't let me) Then one day while getting the Accord serviced, I decided to sit in the S. Man did it feel right! 6 months of constant online research and talking about it, finally got my wife to agree to a test drive. Drove a used AP2, hit VTEC on an on ramp and I was hooked. I had just recently started reading car mags again so I did not have "prior knowledge of the S's abilities. So the research led to a test drive to confirm my lust was well placed. Never drove the Z or any other sports car. I have wanted a sports car for years. I have been buying Honda's for thier quality and reliability. It just so happened that I was lucky enough that Honda built a sports car for me to buy.
