Default S2000 Blue Book Value

There has been some discussion on this board of used S2000's regularly selling under Blue Book Value, some times even under retail value. My question is this: I am considering purchasing a 2000 S2000 with 90,000 miles. KBB rates this car's value at $12,6XX. But the seller is looking to get $15,200. for it. There have been some S2k's listed on the for sale section of this site with much less mileage for only slightly more. In light of this, do you think the car's owner wanting almost $3,000 over Blue Book Value on this car is unreasonable? Or am I being unreasonable by offering him that much? any light you could shed on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
James

Those owner were just dreaming or hoping some dumb guy would buy without knowing it's real value. I would'nt pay over kbb value.

I had a look at the car today and it is in pretty good condition, only some cracking on the drivers seat. I really like the car and the color combo (Silverstone/red leather), but he's just asking too much I think. any other opinions?

As much as I LOVE the S2000 (especially mine.... ), DON'T DO IT!!! No offense but he's asking too much for a car that has 90,000 miles....

Make sure you calculate for mileage, too. It might adjust the KBB value up or down. You didn't specify if you already did calculate for mileage in the thread.

Let him know that you will only pay XX amount. Any motivated seller will be flexible. Good luck!

Offer him KBB private sale price and if he doesn't take it fine.

Thanks for all your response's. When calculating value, I did factor the mileage into KBB's adjustor. In regard's to the car having 90,XXX miles, the car is in relatively great shape and it seems (from what I have read on this board) that a well maintained and cared for S2000 should be fine with higher mileage.

the S2000 is a real niche car. Prices will inflate in the spring and summer months, and will decline in the fall and winter months. If you can stand going without one for now, you will get a much better deal in the winter. Remember : Supply = Demand..... if there is more demand out there than there are cars, prices will inflate, and vice versa.
