If the chip hasn't "spiderwebbed" yet, many insurance providers will repair (but not replace) it for free with no deductible.
I had two chips repaired last year for free. My insurance provider told me that they'll cover up to 5 chips per year with no deductible. The chips are still somewhat visible afterwards, but they don't spread, so you can continue using the existing windshield.
