Is the S windshield thinner than typical?

If the chip hasn't "spiderwebbed" yet, many insurance providers will repair (but not replace) it for free with no deductible.

I had two chips repaired last year for free. My insurance provider told me that they'll cover up to 5 chips per year with no deductible. The chips are still somewhat visible afterwards, but they don't spread, so you can continue using the existing windshield.

the windshield is def a magnet for small rocks.

Not that I would do this but some windshield companies charge $800 and refund you $500 for your deductible...
