E46 M3s were 6MT or SMG its a manual with auto shift but does not have a torque converter so its a manual in my book....or does that fall under the 3 series line?
Also Porsche 997.2 comes with DSG or 6 speed no more torque converter.
Its not the same...it is very cool that the S2 only came with a stick, never thought about that before, that it is in the same category as the Lotus is special to me.

when i originally asked the question i was thinking of full model lines and not trim lines. so the M3 wouldnt count cuz there is the 3 series. Evo/STi wont count cuz they got their respective lancer/impreza lines. lets be honest, the question would be stupid if it included specific trims.
basically if an average american looked at a M3 and a 3series he would think its the same thing.
from this thread along looks like theres only lotus elise/exige, dodge viper, noble M400/M500, caterham 7, ariel atom. most of which are exotics and have great racing heritage. good to know the S2000 is also in that group!

There are not too many cars offered today with NO auto tranny option for the entire CHASSIS.
S2000, Elise, Viper... and then you start getting up into the exotics... (or more exotic)
