What the hell is going on in here?

Um, I've never tried it but I've always heard that you can go another 20-30 miles once the light comes on (in Honda's at least). Don't worry so much.

Ok, the S2k has a 13.2 gallon gas tank. The past 4 Hondas I owned, the owner manual stated the warning light came on with about 2.5 gallons of gas left in the tank. I have filled up when the light came on with anywhere from 10.6 to 11.2 gallons to fill the tank back up. That means I had anywhere from 2.6 to 2.0 gallons left in the tank, which is in line with the owners manual. I average about 20mpg in the combined driving I do, sometimes as low as 16 to 17, but that is during autocross weekends. Anyway, with a 20mpg average and 2 gallons left in the tank, I am sure I can find a gas station within 40 miles.

I nominate this thread for "Worst thread of the Month."

the gas guage on this car sucks. it's just the way it is. the last 1/3 drops really fast.
It doesn't suck. The reason why it drops quickly is to scare people who want to use every last drop before they have to fill up. If you knew any better then you would know that the light comes on when you have approx. 2-3 gallons left.

um yeah... point is the fuel guage isnt very accurate. rolleyes.gif
um yeah... point is quit being a pansy and just gas up when the gas light comes on. either that or you can wait until the car dies and then push it to the station. then post a thread about it telling everyone what a horrible night you had.

NOTE: for those of you who love to spueeze every last drop of gas into the tank, and ignore the auto shut off feature of the gas pump: It is there for a reason!

Most gas tanks have an air chamber at the top to allow gases to rise. This helps in emissions and also for fuel mileage. When you fill up this chamber the gas sensor gets decallibrated and it will not show that the tank is fully full (sorry for the verbage, it was the best I could come up with).

So for those of you who do this, STOP! It'll help in emissions and might increase your mileage.

Boy, tough crowd!

Just wanted to throw in that even when the warning light comes on, you've still got at least 20 miles left... (well, not on the track).
Well, for all you gas gauge reading experts...how about this.

I start a day of autocross with about 5 bars on the gauge. By the end of the 2nd run, I have ZERO bars. Before the 3rd run, I hop in my car to get some gas, and it says I have 1/3 tank left... So screw that, that's more fuel than I need to carry anyways. I do my run and it still says I have 1/3 of a tank. And then on my 4th, I'm down to 1/4. 5th run I'm empty again. When the day's over, I have 3 bars.

So how much gas do I have now?!?!?!!?!

Mine goes fast after 3 bars. I drove it about 30 miles with the light on and still put in less than 11 gallons. One bar usually means only 10 1/2 gallons of gas at the pump.

That is the bonus like when you play game and pass the check point ""Time Extended". You drive the car like the way they design it too so it's a bonus

The gauges are a trip. I agree with chusi. After 1/3 full it drops quickly. I was down to no bars for 4 miles and then filled up. I still had 2 gallons left in the tank after filling up. I don't like doing that but I wanted to see what would be left in the tank if I never could find a station for some reason. It's ugly seeing no bars and wondering if you can get out of the way that semi behind you. Good thing it is averaging 21-23 mpg. I think maybe Honda did that for a reason; but I don't like to be scared. How about a 15 gallon gas tank?
cruise with attidue while you watch your fuel gauge
