My top is up/down so often (unpredictable Houston weather) so I usually leave the irritating but nice looking cover in my garage since it takes up too much room in the trunk.
If I'm going on a road trip that I think will be precipitation-free, I will put the cover on since it helps with the wind resistance.

I've had my top down for months at a time. The only time it comes up, is when I wash it. I've had no problems with it at all. The car is almost 3 years old.

What's a top?!?!?!?!?

Agree with the earlier posts regarding it being easier (and better on the top/window) if it is warm.

I leave the top down and the cover on the whole summer. I'm in no danger of getting rained on for another four months or so, so the top won't be raised until then. The cover keeps a lot of dirt out of the fabric and metal parts of the roof, which is why I use it most of the time.

I'm not the slightest bit concerned about the fabric not being tight, but the window is not completely flat when I finally put the top up. It needs a few days out in the sun to stretch it out properly, which I won't do, so I'll live with some distortion while looking out the back window. It's so rare I drive with the top up that I don't consider it a big deal.

If I pull into the garage and the top is down it stays down. If it was up on the way home than it stays up.

Mine stays up in the garage - it's easier to do that instead of throwing a dust cover over the car.
