Default Is this the right Hawker battery for the s?

Hey all,

I'm looking to get a new battery for my s and decided on getting a Hawker after searching around for a good replacement. On this old thread there's a link to this site:

gotbatteries.com

Is this the correct one to get for the s?

thanks in advance.

As far as "correct" battery, that little compact battery can't be considered the "correct" battery. However, it is one that will work in the car if you don't need to start it near or below freezing temps or don't have a humongous sound system.

The "correct" battery is one that has the same dimensions and cranking amps as the OEM battery. That Hawker battery is neither. It requires you to slightly modify the hold downs and to obtain the necessary terminals.

I see. I think I understand what you mean by "correct." I guess I wanted to know if that battery that would work in the S because there are several different models but I couldn't find which one in particular people have been using in their cars.

From what you're telling me, it seems that as long as there's enough cranking power to start the engine and I guess maintain a charge, you could use any battery, as long as certain conditions are met and modifications are made to fit anything that is different in size from an OEM battery.

Thanks for your reply! I see now that getting this battery is not a simple bolt-on affair. This other post I saw with custom brackets shoulda tipped me off.

A 12v lantern would "work".

Actually no that isn't the one you want...
Basically the same battery design, but there are some differences.
Plus that is a bolt terminal, you want one w/ SAE auto posts
This is the one you want http://www.gotbatteries.com/items.asp?para.../SL105/37L105S4

There is also the one w/ metal jacket for heat resistence if you are worried about under the hood temps

Here is a picture of my old Hawker battery:

It is much like the one in the link in the first post. It did NOT come with the terminals. These are simply bought as "extras" that screw right on. The volts and amperage are the same.

Here it is when it was installed in my car:

The picture may not show it, but the battery holder is at it's maximum adjustment and it was still loose. It worked fine for the few months I had it during the summer. I ditched it as soon as the weather turned cold and it started to crank the engine slower. Any of these compact batteries will "work". And if you only use it in the warm climates, they will also be "fine".

I got mine from the S2Ki.com Marketplace. It was sold here for S2000s. This type of battery wasn't a big seller and that's probably why they stopped.
