180 miles to go until VTEC and "redline"! Excitement is mounting, palms are already sweaty in anticipation and tachycardia is setting again as I think about my black beauty!!

How can you guys hit the rev limiter so many times?? Watch the tach! It's there for a reason!

Geez. Don't tell me you actually enjoy feeling the rev limiter hit.

Seriously, get ready to shift 2-300 rpm below the redline, that way, you'll get it at 9000 rpm.

Heh. what are you doing then? Take that car out to the nearest city and back to get rid of that 180 miles! It's only a 3 hrs drive at the most.

S2K_Dallas,

Accelerating through redline (what you describe) is safe but should be avoided. Downshifting and going into gear above redline (what Schatten described) is definitely not safe, as the rev-limiter can't protect the engine.

I used to agree, until I had a local cop radar me. My speed indicated 45, but I was going 43. Who knew? I had him do it twice just to make sure. Of course, I could be the exception to the rule, and my tires were bald . I agree with your statement as a general rule, spedo's are almost always optimistic.

Is there anyway to reduce the jolt when you rev too high in first?

I have it down to where I get one, single cut from my rev-limiter right as I'm snicking it into second. While I don't know if it is, it sure as Hell feels perfect...
Just as a side note about the rev-limiter. Technically, it's not good for the motor because the unburned fuel from the ignition shut-off washes the oil off of the cylinder walls. But I'm sure it would have to be very excessive for it to make a measurable difference. I'm sure it could be different for our cars, depending on how often the ignition is cut, and whether or not the carbon-ceramic liners have any more resilience to it. Regardless, I'm sure it's nothing to worry about. I once hit third instead of fith (Damn, non-sequential transmissions...) in my Integra Type R, but fortunately I did not release the clutch all the way, so it just felt like I had tapped the brakes. The front tires did not even come close to locking, so I'm almost sure the clutch took the hit. It was fine forever after that. Just my two cents...

Best regards,
Matt
