Rev Limiter Question
#13
If you make it a habit to always drop one gear at a time so you develop muscle memory, the likelihood of the above scenario will be dramatically lessened. On the street, there is almost no situation that requires skipping gears. If racing, and going from a long straight to a tight corner dictates skipping, that is another issue, but you must practice a lot. The idea is to make the shifts automatic, and skipping gears will not develop good, smooth habits. Blowing an engine is one of those life education lessons that yields little in the way of usuable knowledge.

There is a mechanism that "blocks" you from putting the car into certain gears depending on your speed. For example if the car is moving it's very difficult to put the car in first. Supposedly the 2003 celica has a device that prevents a 3rd to 2nd misshift now.

Ummm.. not so sure about that. The reason why it's hard to engage first when moving is because in most cars there is no synchro going from 2nd to 1st. If you rev match (clutch in, neautral, rev up to how ever many revs you need for your car, clutch in, grab first) you can shove any car into first when moving at any speed. So if you want to blow your engine by going into first at whatever stupid speed just do that....
wil..
