OneQuickS2K,

I think there are two Helm's manuals out there. One is for general maintenance and the other is for bodywork. Which manual has the information for the soft top??

AEW: It took me about 10 hours of working on it throughout the whole weekend and took me about 1 month to gather all the parts I needed for installation (including tools). You can buy a '02 soft top from H and A for like $750 (blue) or from Hparts.com for
like $800-850 (black). The rivets/straps are connecting the two bars.

almilli: Defroster has not been hooked up yet. I've been busy (read: lazy) so I haven't got a chance to. I did buy all the parts
for it and I plan to install it very soon...next weekend??? I don't
think the defroster will be hard to hook up because I've got
the '02 defroster switch and the '02 soft top sub-wiring harness.
There is a segment of wirings missing because we do not have
these in '00-'01 model ('02 models all have them) but what I
will try to do is to buy wires and hook up the missing wires with
a reley and fuse (for safety).

honda9krpm: thanks for the kind words. yea, maybe
s2ki can put all these info in the library for the '00-'01 s2k
owners. the problem is...all the info. are in pieces...someone
will have to organize all this info. and put it into a "how-to"

tomspedale: the '02 roofline are not very different than the
'00-'01 models. The 02 soft top I got fit perfectly. I did not
have to modify the '02 top. I just added elastic straps to the
'00 frame.

KeithD: I am aware that the '02 soft top has the elastic material
that you're referring to becuase I have a friend who has a '02 blue s2k and the soft top I got came with that elastic material that you're talking about but that piece of material is not elastic enough, or maybe not even elastic...it's jsut a piece of cloth to me
when I got it. I added the elastic straps and the top seems to fold
very nicely.

MarkS2K: I got the "service manual" from Helm's Inc. The copy I
bought is for '00-'02 model so It has comparsion of the two
soft tops. The "body work" manual is not what I am referring
to, sorry for not being clear. It's the Helms service manual.

OK, please be patient with me here - I just want to reduce this install to my simple level .

To put an 02 roof onto either a '00 or '01 roof frame the only mod (ignoring the wiring/switch for the dimister) which needs to be made is the istalation of 2 elastic straps between frame bars 2 and 3 right??????

Assuming this is correct (please let me know if it is not).........a few suplimentary questions:

1/ The 00/01 roof has elastic staps between frame bars 1 and 2. Are the staps needed for the 02 roof installed in the same way as this?

2/ Is there any reason why you shouldnt use these straps in the 02 roof install (the gap between frame bars 2 and 3 is much shorter than bars 1 and 2, so the straps can be cut down).

3/ How much tension is needed on the staps between bars 2 and 3? (Similar to the 00/01 staps? More? Less?)

Many thanks for your help, inspiration and patience!

OneQuickS2K, can you take a picture of the straps and post it so we can see what the mod looks like?

Thanks,
David

The two center studs were removed on the 2002 because the window goes tight up against the front of the well when the top is lowered. If they were there, the window would hang up on the studs.

The 00-01 Hardtop defog switch has a timer built in. The factory '02 switch does not.

Just had mine done also . The new top is terrific. I'm the
owner OneQuickS2k referred to regarding the blue top.
I just had the top installed on my silver S2k. It looks great!

There are two minor issues: The glass window top doesn't fold
in quite as deeply as the pastic windowed top. Not a big
deal--I'm surprised I actually noticed. Also, the pegs that the
boot cover snaps onto rub it a bit. I'm going to try to adjust
it so that they don't--I may just unscrew them. Does anyone
know if there is a bolt on the other side of these snaps/pegs?
It's clear how to unscrew them from the outside, but I don't
want to have a loose bolt in the car.

Aside from these two adjustments, the new top folds perfectly.
The fit is snug, and the action of the top works perfectly.
The view out the rear window is worlds better with the glass.

After picking up the new blue top on Ebay for $400, the
total came to $700. Not chump change, but a good deal
for sure.

noah2000, do you have your new blue top on an 00-01 frame?

Yes, he does. I refer him to the body shop that I go to. They charge $300-400 for installation
including modifications to fit the '02 top on a '00-'01 frame.
