Resale value
Hey guys!
I have been on the board for a while, but this is my first post... mostly because I don't currently have an S2000 of my own to brag about.
Anyway...
I am wondering why the resale value of the S2000 is still at or above MSRP. It seems that there no longer is a shortage of the cars. In fact, at autotrader.com alone there are almost 400 for sale. And, I haven't heard of as many dealers charging over MSRP for new models.
So, will we see more resonable prices on used models anytime soon?

I think it's cause the dealers themselves paid big money to buy the used S2Ks in the first place so they're kind of "stuck" with them. I think resale values will definately go down unless demand spikes up. Here in Vancouver, many dealers have chosen not to keep them in stock.

I think some dealers are trying to capitalize on the rarity of the S2K by trying to sell you a used one at a high price. The local Mercedes dealer has an S2K in the used car lot so I called them to see how much they wanted for it. The car had over 30,000 miles on it and they wanted $31,500!!! I just thought that was ridiculous, since you can get a new one for $32,000.

In Montreal the resale value sucks. I can't get over 40K (canadian) for mine (about 25K US) and it has a lot of goodies on it, never smashed with 20000 miles
I am trying to sell it for 44-45K canadian (27K US?)

It's true that the prices are coming down, but I believe the situation here (East coast) is worse than California.
When I was looking to buy my car three weeks ago, the biggest Honda dealer here in Boston had, get this, 20 stooks in stock - 5 of 'em were yellow, and none were silver/red. I went to two other dealers and one had 4 in stock and the other had 7.
S2kmtl wrote he lives Montreal, which is only 300 miles Norht of Boston. Canada's current economy isn't as good as the States (not that we were that much better), so I think he might get more money in Cali than what he could ask for in Montreal.

What are the logistical/financial issues, if any, with buying a Canadian model and bringing it to the US?
I would be so willing to take a flight to Canada to get a Stook in the $25-28k range, and drive it home.

First of all, the current Canadian economy is BETTER than the US and has been for the past few months. All analysts will tell you that. Course that has nothing to do with the Canadian dollar.
Second of all, an new S2K is 48000CDN not including freight. So if you do a currency exchange it should come out to a bit less than 31,000US. It's still cheaper than what you can get in US I think but it's not in the 25-28K range.
