Default replace clutch fluid?

For the past couple weeks, my clutch engagement point decreased to a point where i barely even have to release my clutch. Before, my engagement point was about 2" from the floor. When i step down on the clutch, there just does'nt seem to be any tension until i get down to the very bottom of the floor. Also, it is extremly hard for me to shift into gears, espcially 1st and reverse. The middle gears feel very very knotchy as well. Its a pain for me to drive in traffic because i have to stay in first otherwise if i go to second, theres no guarantee that it'll shift into first easily.

My s2k has 58k miles and it still feels like the clutch catches just fine. i don't notice any slipping either. Do i need to replace clutch fluid??? Any other suggestions?

Rebleeding the clutch line wont hurt, and its easy enough to do. That'll at least eliminate a variable in this problematic equation.

Did this happen all at once or slowly over time? If it really just started two weeks ago, then bluemeanie has it figured. Take a look at fluid level as well. If it got low enough to get air in the line, then bleading may fix it. Otherwise it's either a bad master and/or slave cylinder...

Looks like you're headed to a mechanic...

Thanks guys!!!

this started just a few weeks ago. my clutch fluid level is below the min line so i'm going to bleed it first. if it still doe'snt fix the problem, then i'll have the mechanic look at the master/slave cylinder. HOw much does that cost to fix?

look under the car, if the slave is leaking, you will see a few drops and a little stream of fluid.

mine was fine one day and the next, going home, it felt 'funny', soft and it went to the floor and the gears were VERY hard to go into.
this was in the space of 3 miles. I stopped and got a bottle of DOT 3, filled up the resv. and went home. next day I went to the dealer and had the slave replaced. it was under warranty so I don't know the cost. part is about 50-60.
