Default removing arm rest pad thingy

Ok, I searched around and know how to remove the center console, but I don't see a thread anywhere describing how to remove just the little perfporated part in the middle next the the glove box. I know it can be done b/c I saw a custom interior picture where they made it yellow. Does it just pop off with extra effort or does it screw on from below the console? I want to just take off the pad b/c I want to recover it with another material. Any help or pictures would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

BTW, I have an 04.

Im not sure aboput the 04's ,but the other ones just pop off with clips. Its all one piece though. From the front of the shifter back. Stick a flat head under and pop up. Mine can be done by hand because Ive done it so many times now.

The armrest IS attached to the rest of the center console, using plastic "welds" There are plasic posts on the armrest that are put through the center console and melted. Gind them off, and you can remove just the armrest.

Good for placing a proximity sensor underneath for an alarm. Some pix of >04 here: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=121061

Scroll down for more info on the center console

Ok, that's exactly what I was looking for. It sucks that they melted it secure. What do you recommend for reattaching it and making sure it doesn't fall off again? I'm guessing mix up a batch of two part epoxy if you're certain about the mod?

I left mine "loose" there are four clips holding the armrest in place on it's own. I have not had a single issue or problem with it like that for over a year.

For reattaching any "melted-on plactic pole" connection, I use JB Weld on the portion of the poles that remain after being ground off. Very strong bond, so make sure you won't be wanting to remove this piece again before you follow this advice.

Thanks,
Richard

I just added the Rick's leather center console a couple of days ago, which required removing the center plastic/perforated area on top of the console.

Basically:

--loosen the nut holding the shift knob tight, and remove knob

--Starting from the back, put a couple fingers under the perf'ed pad/plastic and lift up. There are six or eight push-tabs running along the outside. It's REALLY EASY to remove.

--Once lifted up, you can disconnect the roof and hazard electrical connectors.

The only thing you have to worry about is bending the console so much that the plastic cracks--it really is pretty easy.

By the way, the Rick's leather center console cover really makes the interior look much more complete. It's a must-have complement to the interior.

Oops!!! Just actually READ your thread. You know how to do this!

oh yea! that carpet is just tacky. doing it in leather makes the car look and feel much more expensive. Rick's stuff is good leather, too. I have the console and shift boot (the pre04 boot is vinyl).
