removing the airbox?
Just out of curiosity, I removed the airbox covering the filter today and drove around for about 5 minutes. I was really impressed with the sound. Not only did the car sound louder, there was also a much throatier rumble.
I wanted to know what the consequences are of driving with the airobx removed for longer periods of time? Does it rob you of power because more hot air goes into the filter? Does the filter get dirty sooner?
Also, whats another way to duplicate this sound? ... buy an aftermarket air filter?
Thanks.

if you do a search on "removing air box" you'll get a lot of feedback on past experiences.
it's generally accepted by everyone that having the air box open will be detrimental to your power level.
if you like that sound, then perhaps you should wait for AEM or Injen's intake. open element filter setups will always be louder.

thanks for the help
I searched differing terms and did not get satisfactory results.
So the concensus seems to be that you will lose some performance but there will be no damage (as long as the engine doesn't overheat).

How about drilling holes in the airbox cover then covering them with a paper thin sheet (maybe paper ) so you still get
the cold air (relatively speaking) and the sound goes thru the paper like a snare drum

Last session at PIR I ran with the top off, but I also removed the plastic peice from the bumper area above the Air condenser. This allows a lot more air to flow up from the bumper area. I noticed no change in power what-so-ever but it was a lot louder.
