Default ?removing air box cover?

i saw this someplace in a thread that leving the lid or cover off the air box gives the car a sweet sound. idon't have the car with me today so i don't know what is involved or what kind of damage can occur. anyone?

Update:

i did this last night. WOW! that is cool, i drove it around with no radio, just listened to the car...

I'm 36 not a kid but all i can say is Biiiiiitchin'!!!

I didn't notice a loss in power but that makes sence. Any intakes that would simulate the sound?

You will get a growl from removing the cover and there isnt alot of risk for damage but you will make the intake charge prone to heat soak and you will actually see a decrease in power.

My buddy Dynoed the car with and without the airbox cover on and he actually lost power with the cover off. Cool sound, but keep the cover on

I've never heard what it sounds like without the airbox lid, but any aftermarket intake will sound bad-ass.

I removed mine and the heat soak was unbarable, once the cover was back on I felt like I gained so much power back. BTW I live in Texas so the summer heat plays a BIG factor.

what i noticed when i did that, was increased response, but it was sucking even more gas. sooo...PROS - increased response and pretty cool sound ...........CONS - guzzling gas at a quicker rate. More air = more fuel.

I pull mine off now and then.

In the dead of winter when the outside temperature is 10 degrees you have to figure heat soak is not an issue at speed. Great sound.
